Come now....they're no different than those who chop up classic cars to make hotrods out of them, bolt gigantic scopes to trim lever action rifles, or attach all the silly bullshit to their AR's.

I can't imagine who in their right mind would have ever thought that was a good idea to do that to an M1 Carbine.

60's through the 80's M-1 Carbines weren't considered collectors items. My 1st one was a Korean bring back Rockola that my uncle dropped into a MP-40 "Schmeisser" style stock so he could use it as a "truck gun" during the riots back in the 60's.

He used to keep it with 2 30 round mags taped together. When I got the gun from him 1980 he'd long lost the USGI stock.

More like $20, and yes there were barrels of them.

I'm posting my "Bubba'd Carbine

Royal Thai Police issued Howa M-1 Carbine.

This is how it looks now

It's my main "shooter" Carbine and the red dot helps us old boomers out.

Just to cleanse your eye's

My 1944 Inland ex Blue Sky. I had a new barrel installed, refinished and did a new Boyd's stock for it a couple weeks ago. It's going to be my "holiday" shooter, getting range time every Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day

Grandfather was a machinist and sporterized a true #5 Jungle Carbine back in the late 50's(?).  The work was really nicely done but....  Cut front sight ears and bayo lug off, front of stock cut down.  I hunted with it myself until a few years back when the receiver cracked. I later identified the old surplus ammo we had been shooting and it was Lapua AP rounds spec's for MG...oops.  Explains why we always had exit wounds ...as well as why the receiver cracked.

Well...... it does have a thousand dollars worth of ammo with it

Does the barrel look too long to be standard issue or is it just me?

Carbine looks like it's sitting in a Korean stock.

If the mount for the optical sight didn't require holes drilled into the receiver, I'd be tempted if everything else was legit and the bore was in good shape.  A proper USGI issue front and rear sight isn't hard to find.

The carbine in the OPs pic has what looks to be an M2 slide.

Hard to tell, it could be the lack of a front sight, bayonet lug plus the angle of the photo make it look longer. Putting a longer barrel on a Carbine would have taken some work, you would have had to install  it on the barrel somehow.
