Imagine if they sang a duet.

Axl Rose almost fell off the stage.??????

They're both bad, but Vince at least tries.  Axl sounds like a baby getting flogged with a bag of cats.

Axl's solo piano performance at Lisa Marie's funeral was downright terrible.  Dude needs to turn in his microphone.
At least give him credit for not lip syncing to a track like mariah carey and so many others.  She's awful.  Can't sing her wait out of a paperbag live.

It seems like only a couple years ago, but it was almost 8 years ago now that Axl toured with AC/DC and at that time he sounded pretty damn good, better than he had in a while. It looks like lately he's pretty much lost it.

I can't remember what year this was and I'm not exactly sure which tour but I think it was Motley Crue's Theatre of Pain tour. It was for sure whichever tour Tommy Lee's drum riser was like a roller-coaster. I remember it raised up, spun around and did all kinds of things during his drum solo.
GnR opened for Motley Crue in Jacksonville.
Maybe it was the sound system or maybe it was the stuff that had went up my nose but as I remember Axl sounded much better, like he was giving us everything he had. Vince seemed to be phoning it in.
Also, Slash is a MUCH better guitar player than Mick Mars.
For the record I no longer put chemicals up my nose.

And slash never could play their own songs live.  Back in their prime, all the videos of GnR live, they sucked.  I always assumed it was cause they were shit faced.
And also the thing where in the recording studio, you get a million takes and mulligans. Then through the power of editing, you can crank out a masterpiece from a million individual clips stitched together.  Axl and Slash couldn't reproduce those songs on demand in front of an audience.

This! Axl never had any vocal clarity or the ability to hit notes on key. He relied on jamming his voice through the nasal cavity and using vibrato to mask his inability to carry a tune.

His popularity was solely the result of having an insanely talented guitarist in the band and good marketing.

On an album? Both are good to great.

Live? Axl I guess. Vince is generally in the “Bon Jovi” realm of live… which is to say “nearly unlistenable”.

Axl was always better, so there's that. You can listen to any (or every) Motley album and there isn't a single song where Vince had impressive vocals. Not one. The songs are great, but not because of his voice.  He had a unique voice that worked foe the songs....but he isn't a good vocalist.

Axl at least was once a pretty functional musician.

They both sound like Marge Simpson with a cold. Can't stand either of them. I hate the fact that GnR was an 80's band. I once broke a radio because I couldn't change the station quick enough when GnR came on.

Back in their day, I often wondered how in the hell Rose ever got a record contract. He HAD to have pictures of somebody with a goat.

Now, he has to be unlistenable. The other guy I never listened to their stuff so it's a toss up.

I'll pass on both bands work, I think. Too much other great music out there to subject your ears to that crap.

Vince by far.
Seen both in concert, the Crue in their prime several times and it was always a great show and even though I’m not a fan of live performances, Vince sounded pretty damn good.
But I’ve seen quite a few great front men, Halford, Dio, Dickinson, Hetfield

Axl in his prime. And those that have been blessed to hear his personal cassette recording of him coming up and developing November rain in his own home/apartment... it is pure art.

Started out with a rif and the line cold November rain. He played it over and over humming and inserting words then writing them down till it became the song. Some didn't work, some did. It was awesome.

Axl sucked ass when I first saw him with Mötley Crüe back in the 80s. I still listen to Guns N’ Roses on tons of their songs that I have downloaded, but they terribly horribly fucked it up live, and that was before his voice went to shit.  Between the two for live performances, I’ll give Vince Neal 10 to 1 odds.

vocally, they're both ass.  rose has better control of his voice, but his voice is absolutely godawful.  it's like a well-disciplined goose.

that said, GnR is a far better band.
