I need a set of flip up irons.  Who makes good ones?

I want something nicer than Magpul and preferably ODG but I can live with black.

The application is below.

There once was a company that started with a "T" and ended in a "Y".

But I will never buy one of their products again.

Troy are still the best. Magpul a close second. The drop tests are interesting.

Troy, Magpul Pro, Midwest Industries, or Griffin Armament for me

KAC rear sight can be found easily for under 150.

Your front should be a fixed FSB.

As often as BUIS are going to be called upon, and the types of shots you'll want to make, you're probably better served buying a Magpul set and a skinnier front post and putting the extra $ into making sure the primary optic doesn't fail.

I like the Troys, but saying this is not allowed here.  But the Troys are excellent and have always served me good

I do not like anything Magpul makes,  very cheap, even the Magpul Pros feel very cheap.

ARMS at one time was the standard that all others were measured against.

KAC is now the gold standard and for a very good reason....If you can find them for less cost than a set of new KO2's for your truck, buy them.

I have some Midwest Industries fixed sights, they are as good as the Daniel Defense BUIS,  but I did not know MI made flip up sights.

I like the Griffin Armaments BUIS. Simple, small and light.

KAC if you want to flex on the poors.

Magpul Pro to be 'just as good.

If these don't come in a flip up, maybe 45 deg will fit the backup sights role?

Link Posted: 9/29/2022 10:19:14 PM EDT

Put another red dot or micro on a 45. Red dots are the best if you have to have backups.

My Troy HK-style buis did not need any zeroing out of the box to hit dead center at 50 yards. I bought them before I found out about the cancel culture around Troy.

They certainly do and have for some years.  Great sights.  Anything else is a mistake.

I tend to simplicity and pragmatism ($ thriftiness). In that context and my humble opinion, it is very hard to beat the Mag Pro series of metallic sights. If they are going to be occassional use back up sights, the plastic Magpuls will suffice and have done well in the drop tests last time I read anything about that.

Personally I prefer the Pro series sights for the following reasons: metal construction, very small footprint both folded and raised, easy to see/use, and reasonable mid range price.

Yes, you can spend 2-3 times the price on other NAMES/brands of sights. But I defy anyone to conclusively prove to me they are any better for the average shooter's need. If you are an operator operating in a tactically operational environment, you might justify spending silly sums of money on such sights, but I'll pose the same challenge. If you can prove a measurable degree of superiority of one over the other, I"ll concede the point.

Let's face it, they all have two things: a rear peep and front post sight design. Thats true for the cheapest Amazon metal/plastic sight sets through the most expensive sights.

And no I'm not talking about the ultra high precision sights used in match shooting and the like. Thats a whole different thread.

But in the end, find a set you like, in your price range, and learn how to use them to your fullest abilities.

Nearly anything off ebay or amazon.

Yes, I said it.

Theyre damn iron sights. Very simplistic in nature and easy to manufacture.  Ive never had any pair fail me yet and they all function more than adequately. Its not even really a risk to buy generic.

FPNI.

When you hire murdering gov POSes as employees like you don't know who they are and what they've done you will never get a cent from me. I won't even buy your shit on the secondary market because I don't want to be associated with your name in any way.

I'd buy MBUS Pros.
