At the risk of sounding tarded... I am NOT a great cook... So I ask.. Everyone saying to toss in chicken breast.... Im assuming raw chicken breast? Not needing to be cooked before I put them in the crock pot correct? If so, How does using frozen breast change things? Or does it..

My wifey makes some awesome crock pot lasagna... don't even have to boil the noodles! Its every bit as good as lasagna in the oven, but is 10x easier to make...so you can have it more often!!!

J/K Yes, throw it in there raw. You will be doing your cooking in the pot. As far as frozen... eh... Realistically, for as long of a time as you will be stewing in the crockpot (4-8 (or longer) hours for most recipes) it won't be an issue from a "properly cooked" perspective. But, it may do some funny shit with your water level. If you are "actively" cooking with the crock pot, flavoring as you go along etc., you'll be maintaining the water level anyway... but if you want a true "set and forget" recipe, start with a fridge temp - to - room temp chicken. |

It's the best for the tedious bits of venison like the neck, flank, and bone in front quarter halves ( need an oval crockpot). Trim all the fat you can and slow cook in your favorite broth etc. You can also brown the meat, deglaze the pan, and use the drippings to flavor the broth. 6-8 hours on low and all the connective tissue etc. will be broken down. I add fresh veggies with a few hours left so they aren't totally mushy.

1.5qt of chicken broth
2.5lbs of cubed roast or stew meat 1 onion some dried garlic a teaspoon of thyme tablespoon or so of flour canola oil or butter gently brown the meat in a skillet with oil or butter, sprinkle the flour on top and stir it in, when it's all brown, put it in a crock pot with the broth. Scrape all the drippings from the pan and rinse the pan with a few ounces of water to get all the bits out, put all that in the crock pot. Chop up the onion, throw it in, add the garlic and the thyme. Cook it for 4 hours at minimum or overnight. |

Sprinkle your favourite hot sauce in to a bowl of this goodness.

Duck Confit...real nice, real tasty. Store-bought, freshly blasted out of the sky, doesn't matter.

Quoted: Love it. Sear a roast and put it in broth with veggies and seasoning in the morning. Dinner is ready when you come home. View Quote Pretty much this. They are fantastic when everyone in the household works the same shift. Get home, thicken the stew and it's dinner time just like that. So meat / veggies are a go-to. Also chili is a good crockpot candidate as is pot roast. |

Cooking in a crock pot is awesome.
I do all kinds if shit in it. Get a few liners if you don't like cleaning. Get your chicken breasts thawed. Can of chicken broth. Cover in mango habanero salsa. Let er rip for 7-8 hours. Shred chicken. Use in tacos, nachos, whatever. Profit. Eta- 7-8 hours is on low |

Quoted: Wife does. Mostly chili. Sometime beans, sometimes no beans. Basically if you need anything to simmer for any period of time, it probably works better then 99% of normal kitchen ranges. View Quote I joined the 1%. Crockpots suck for braising. Temperature control is non-existent. Got a Viking and Thermador ranges with La Creuset for each. Stove top for chili and sauces. |

Got any deer steaks or roasts? This one is incredible.
Italian Venison Sandwiches 2 cups water 1 envelope onion soup mix 1 tbsp dried basil 1 tbsp dried parsley flakes 1 tsp beef bouillon granules 1/2 tsp celery salt 1/4 tsp garlic powder 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper 1/4 tsp black pepper 1 boneless venison roast (3-4 pounds), cut into 1" cubes Add all ingredients to a crockpot, and stir to coat meat and combine all the ingredients. Cook on low for 8 hours, serve on sandwich rolls or onion buns. The juice in the crockpot makes an awesome dipping sauce for the sandwich. |

I thought, I didn’t reply here did I?! @C-ham Yours might move but I’ve got you beat by 12 years. |

I'm cooking now and the crockpot is my go to method. Throw in cubed meat of my choice, which is either venison or chicken. Two bags of frozen mixed vegetables, and a can of either chicken or beef gravy. Season to taste and you've got a good meal. 3 hours on high for the meat and gravy first, then add the veggies for another 3 hours.

View Quote Ok, best place I have found for crock pot recipes, (I love mine), is a Fuckbook page called Crock Pot Heaven. Seriously. Lost of very nice people. Second is allrecipes.com. I use mine mainly for pot roast, but barbecued shredded chicken is another awesome one. |

Pulled pork, whole chickens, there are all kinds of things you can use it for.

Every so often we do a pot roast and it is hard to mess up. Add whatever you want and flavor to your taste.

Chuck roast seared on both sides
Packet of ranch seasoning Stick of butter Small jar of giardiniera juice and all over top Turn on low for 6-8 hours |

Haven't much since we got an instant pot.
still use it for queso, and steaming tamales though. |

We use the crock pot all the time.
Peperocini pot roast: Pepperoni peppers and juice 3/4 stick of Butter Ranch seasoning Chuck Roast Pepsi Roast: Can (has to be can) Pepsi Can of Cream of Mushroom Can of Cream of Celery Packet of Onion soup mix Chuck Roast This one is freaking delicious. Make mashed potatoes and use the juice in the crock pot thickened with some corn starch for gravy. Austrian Goulash Chuck roast cubed and browned. Put in crock pot. Beef broth 1.5 can Cream of Mushroom Can Evaporated milk Cayenne Caraway seed Cumin Paprika Garlic Salt Pepper Set pot to low and cook for at least 6 hours Thicken with corn starch or flour to a light gravy consistency. Make elbow's and serve over elbows. These are a few. Grandma's Goulash has been in the family since I can remember. The Pepsi Roast I learned in the 90's. The Peperocini roast is something my better half found. Always use Chuck Roast. It is the BEST in the crock pot. |

Peel and cut some potatoes into chunks.
Cut 1 or 2 rings of Hillshire kielbasa or smoked sausage into chunks. I brown them a little first to add flavor and get rid of some grease. Drain a couple of bags of sauerkraut. Place everything in your crock pot and add some liquid. I usually cook this in apple juice but a lager beer is tasty too. Pinch of caraway seeds if you want. Mmm-mmm! |

I make Buffalo Chicken Dip every few months in the crock pot. Sometimes I experiment with other things too, it does a pretty good job for a $12 "set and forget" small appliance.
I'll post my "recipe" if anyone wants, it's super easy. |

My old crock pot gave up the ghost a while back. I got a new one, it runs hotter on low than the old ones did. What used to take eight hours on low is now overdone in that amount of time.
As for what I like from a crock pot--beans and ham, chili, pulled pork/country style pork ribs, etc. |
|
I have a simple one I like to make:
As much frozen chicken breasts as you feel are necessary At least one jar of salsa, whatever you like Taco seasoning or other spices if you want to put it in One can of corn, drain the water out first Cook until you can shred the meat with forks. Then you make up some rice and refried beans and get some shredded cheese. Make up some easy chicken burritos, or rice bowls. Eat leftovers for lunch tomorrow, and maybe even the next day. |
