I'm not talking about the "stars."
I'm talking about all those delightful characters in the supporting casts of all the great old western movies and TV shows. For me, none holds a candle to the late, great, Mr. Willam "Jack" Elam (1920 - 2003), a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Elam's misaligned left eye (he was blind in it) was the result of being stabbed in the eye with a pencil after a fight with a fellow Boy Scout when he was kid. Although it cost him his sight in one eye, it certainly didn't hurt his career as a "character." RIP, Mr. Elam. Thanks for all the great roles you played. I also loved Dan Blocker ("Hoss Cartwright"). I guess he's my first runner up.    |
