Because I apparently missed this.

it is a different way of saying Marines suffer from a mental development disorder. It is all in fun
on a side note - keep a box in your bug out bag or supplies. they make great candles and fire starters. |

All of these stories have some truth. Helpful tip the purple crayon is not grape.

Back in the 80s when a Marine didn't something stupid, he would be accused of "smoking crayons." I would assume it kind of filtered down from there.

Like the old joke that they are better than horses as they don't shit while on parade.

It is a little know fact that many stocks have watertight holders for crayons, not batteries. It is why you place rubber bands there, you shed one rubber band for each crayon you eat, when the rubber bands are all gone, it is time to borrow more half eaten ones from the Army.

Yeah, the crayons and drawing dicks on everything is a younger generation thing, like woobies...

You should always eat rubber bands with MREs so if you have to shit in your foxhole, the turds have a convenient handle to throw them with.

The Romans considered drawing dicks good luck. I thought the crayon eating thing came from some memo the military put out warning Marines not to eat crayons. View Quote |

I think there is a photo of a really drunk guy eating crayons. That guy was a Marine and it played into a stereotype.... So here we are a thousand memes later.

The Marines were originally issued watercolors, but couldn't figure out how to mix water with the hard block of coloring material.
Crayons were the fallback mediim, and Since most Marines were already familiar with crayons as a food product, training time was reduced. |

Isn't the real reason because of some service wide IQ test, and the marines scoring lowest?
At least according to the rumor I heard. |
|

Because saying that we have the best culture in the military and that we win battles with your throw away garbage wasn’t much of a cut down. We’re much better warfighters, but apparently so stupid we like to eat crayons.
|

I don't know either, but my guess.. the mind of a soldier that was around some marines from time to time. Lord knows I saw them do some real stupid crap. IMO doesn't get much dumber than standing on top of a vehicle, on a M1070 HET's trailer, silhouetting the hell out of yourself, ordering your marines to look in IED craters and basically police call trash for IED's.... When you have armor you could be behind "But you gotta do dem 5-25's!"
