It's the same as my truck gun, and it's the only rifle I own that doesn't need any batteries.

I am a fan of the K.I.S.S. concept.

If it’s quick, one of these.

If I’ve got time to open the safe and grab some night vision, then this.

Several to choose from but don't see any red dawn or other shtf happening. Stock up on long term foods, cheap ammo, and investments. Most shtf moments in ones life will be financial or health related.

Mk18 Mod 1 SBR with EXPS3-0 light/ IR laser, can, and nods. In a true SHTF being able to conceal a firearm and move quickly will be paramount. Any threat needing to be engaged would be up close within 200 yards.

First one I grab. They all work and will get the job done.

The backup gun will always be the same though. 45-70. 3000 ft lbs of 'fuck you' with 4 more rounds of 'fuck you' in the tube under the barrel.

There is no one answer.

All tools have a purpose and a SHTF scenario will require several tools.

I should clarify, my SOPMOD M4 clone is my boogaloo rifle. For home defense I keep a A2 rifle with 14.5 pinned barrel. Quality parts, but bought used, to keep the cost down. It functions perfectly, but looks completely vanilla to any overzealous prosecutor. I used to subscribe to the old “use the best available, rather be judged by 12” philosophy, but the way this country’s going I want to stack the chips in my favor.

The closest one to me in a SHTF situation. Right now it would be an A4 clone.
