In the most basic sense furries are fans of anthropomorphic art. It goes may directions and rabbit holes from there. Some are literally there for the art, some like the NSFW stuff, some are in the community to make money, some have crazy art skills, some are in it to be accepted, you name it. It's really no different than any other fandom. All seem to have Rule 34.
The really weird ones are Otherkin. If I remember right they believe that they once were some anthropomorphic creature or otherwise believe they are not human or at least not entirely human. Furries are pretty normal in comparison. |

Eh pretty much all my friends are furries, bronies or a mix of the two and are pretty much all conservatives or lean heavy center right. It's easy to spot the really fucked up ones from miles away and easy to spot the ones with their heads screwed on right, otherwise it's like everything else there's always freaks from all walks of life in this world.
Speaking of freaks...I volunteered at a brony convention in Baltimore and I can tell you all the freaks weren't in the convention center they were around the town and mostly at night, I've never seen an actual crazy person out in the street before then and have never been solicited for money more in my life. "yo homie you got a dolla?"
