With maybe the exception of the body shop, everyone is a fast talking asshole.
It's like everyone tries their best to be condescending patronizing pricks, even if they're terrible at it. Where the fuck do they find these people at? Is there special douche bag training they go through? I'm not even talking solely about sales, mostly service advisors. At least with sales the game is obvious. Service, especially warranty or recall work, it makes zero sense why they can't act like a normal well adjusted adult. |

Deal with fucking idiots all day and you'll start to sound the same way.

They aren't exactly the cream of the crop. They probably failed at everything else.
ETA, tone at the top is most likely the cause. I've met two owners of two of the large dealerships in my area. They were both slimeballs and assholes. |
|
Service advisors go throw sales training just like salesmen/women do. They get a low hourly rate of pay and are on a graduated commission structure for services they sell.
The more they sell, the more they make. They don't produce, they get the boot. |

It isn't the people on the floor, it is management.
they set the tone and the push for sales. the same is true for any job that requires sales or needs more customers to maintain the business. some people are good at it, without resorting to the tactics that management suggests. others can't do it without it. I have personally seen the training videos, attended the meetings for life insurance sales, vacuum cleaner sales and a few others. My father related to me car sales, chiropractic work and a few other jobs he held over the years. while there are good principled people that go into the work, the people telling you how to sell for the most part are not that good. And if you don't have skills beyond what they teach you, you get what you see when you go to the dealers. as mentioned service people are selling too. |
|
I'm prolly the only soul in GD that enjoys the whole new car buying experience. Why so much hate? IMO be thankful we have them and lots of choices (or did before the covid shortages).

Dont buy shit vehicles and you wont experience shit dealers.
I have bought a LOT of new vehicles in my life. Like over 20. All personal vehicles over several brands. Every single one was a shitshow except the toyotas and lexus. Hell i have even bought a used lexus from a lexus dealership and even then i was treated like gold. I will only own toyotas and lexus for the rest of my life. Part of that is the great dealer experience. And i have purchased from toyota/lexus in 4 different states so it isnt just the same good dealer. It is brand wide. |

View Quote I'm not in car sales, but I have to agree with this. The average consumer has been programmed to believe that they're going to get screwed on a car purchase, so they automatically go into the situation with an overly defensive mindset. Rather than simply finding the car you want, agreeing to a price, and processing the transaction - it becomes a game of You vs Them. And that's not how you yield the best results in any negotiation. Especially not with people that negotiate for a living. If you don't get the service you want, for the price you want, vote with your feet and leave. That's the beauty of capitalism - there's someone out there that wants your money. Find them and do the deal. |
