Looking for recommendations for a store bought hot sauce that pairs well with Greek, Turkish or other Mediterranean food.

I end up putting Sriracha on my gyros because that's the closest I have, but looking for something more accurate.

What say you all?

I spent months in Turkey and I don’t think I ate anything with hot sauce…? Which recipes are you making?

Ajvar is good stuff. Idunno if it's correct but it works on gyros like a mofo

Not a hot sauce, but peperoncini are the answer here

Pretty much any hot sauce will do.  Don't think I've ever had Turkish food so I don't know anything about it. Even Tabasco is good on gyro.

^^Not 100% sure that's what you're looking for. It's thick, sort of smoky like a chipotle sauce, kinda spicy.....really good. I'm on my second jar. I buy a lot of hot sauces once, so having a second jar is pretty high praise from me.

Nuts, must have had a blip and my post disappeared.

I’ve been on a “match the hot sauce to the cuisine” kick lately since I found out about this stuff: Firell’s Italian Hot Sauce. I’m not posting it to derail the thread, more to encourage talk about the different hot sauces out there I need to try. Especially the medium-heat but super flavorful sauces, I need more of that in my life.

We all know about Cholula, Tapatio, Sriracha, and Frank’s, but what else you got?

Not sure if you can buy this but there are recipes out there to make it.  More hot turkish salsa than hot sauce but it can be very good and pretty hot.

Something aleppo pepper based.  Aleppo peppers are from turkey and they use Aleppo red pepper flakes on stuff.

Camp Ninja's sauce

or

Schug

All I can offer is DIY.  Never seen hot sauce in the Greek grocery in Tarpon Springs.

Hot sauce doesn't really go with Greek food IMHO

You got citric fruit, oregano, mint, thyme, corriander... maybe some basil and pinches of nutmeg or allspice...I would think hot sauce would overpower those flavors.

ETA: just make your own Greek marinade/dressing and add pepper to your taste. I put a dash of cayenne in mine for shrimp kabobs.

Berbere. Stuff is AMAZING. Very common spice in North Africa.

But yeah, Greeks don't really use hot spices in their food.

Not many dagos representin' ITT yet I see

I still eat whole, raw garlic cloves when cooking sometimes, but only because my wife doesn't mind

I also eat chunks of pecorino romano before I toss it in the ninja, along with some pepperoncinnis

I have eaten a lot of Greek and Turkish food and never used or needed hot sauce.

Although I love hot sauce, I dont want to overshadow food that already tastes great.

I did eat dinner at a friend's house in Cyprus and he grilled some hot peppers to have as a side, that's the only hot thing I can remember eating over there.

Hot sauce is what you put on bad food to hide the flavor.

I put hot sauce on good food to enhance the flavor. I must be doing it wrong.

Ya.
Hot sauce is what southerners use to mask the flavors of nasty processed foods.

Some people get used to it and "put that shit on everything".

Some people like blood sausage and scat porn. That doesn't mean any of it's good

As a Greek, I'm wondering why on Earth you want to put hot sauce on it?

Since it's a blasphemy, I don't believe there can be any recommendations. If you want to destroy good food to your own taste, go for it, but don't expect us to help you!
