1997 Lexus LX450, which I still have.  When I'm done, the only original part will be the VIN plate.

I'm only partially kidding.

My Pool

Guitars and related gear

I am also now starting to chase the hi-fi headphone/DAC dragon.  I could see myself spending too much money there very quickly

Motorcycles, especially the ones I rebuilt/restore because I spend too much on hard to find parts, services like zinc plating, the correct paint and paint codes, etc. Sometimes I spend $5000 rebuilding a bike that is really only worth $3500 restored but I can't help myself...it has to be perfect.

Hurricanes in Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Texas.  I'm a damn magnet for them.

'74 Jensen-Healey Roadster.  That was a long, expensive 7 years.

Not so much to date, but will only get worse

On hold for now, to see if the economy shits the bed even more.

Same as in my avatar.

VW Westfalia, but I love camping with it, all the money I expend on is paid up by the great times I enjoy going camping with  the wife and friends, also can be parked in my place with no complaints. MV Agusta R312 2008.

House/property. Just looking at what I spent to maintain/own/enjoy it, no doubt about it was my biggest money pit. Even more than the ex-wife.

Buying a house at the top of the market in ‘05, redoing landscaping, renovating the kitchen & master bath, then selling about 10 years later.

Vehicles. Nothing super exotic, but I like to enjoy my daily driver. My current 6.2L F150 goes through a lot of gas.

Medical bills for the entire family. We hit our out of pocket maximum every year.

Dogs. Veterinarians, trainers, and expensive food, boarding, etc.

Parents-in-law who were once high earners but not good businesspeople or financial planners before dementia hit. We’ve spent tens of thousands in CPA and attorney fees to untangle the mess and get them into a safe living situation.

Music gear & instruments. My gear is completely overkill for my ability level and basement noodling.

Mmmhmmm.

Not that 3-gun and USPSA were any better in that regard.

Perhaps not oddly, I have more fun shooting steel at 15 and 25 yards with my kids than I do with all of the other gadgetry.

And shooting skeet or sporting clays with some friends is also a ton of fun.  I suppose it's not the competition that bothers me, I just like the simplicity of .22s and steel and clays.  Simple guns, simple rules.

Lots of women being the money pits here...

So for a bachelor, is it best to buy my house and everything before marriage, so she can't take it?

Yes. And talk with an estate planner and a prenup attorney, who will most likely have you put everything in a trust. This varies by state.

Years ago, it was my brand new 1970 Dodge Challenger RT 440 magnum. One fix after another. So unreliable  it was not fun.
As I backed it out of the dealers garage, I found the first problem with it. the day I got it, it had a problem. The shift Linkage was loose from the factory as well as the tape player did not work the first day.
Oil pump had a crack in it from the factory. At 2,000 miles, it quit pumping oil. Dealer told me to drive it 20miles to their shop from my work. They it used oil something awful. 1 qt /300 miles.
Dodge said, hey thats not bad live with it.
New starter every year. Run through a water puddle in the road, it would not start until it dried out.
On and on.

First wife was a money pit.

My first and second motorcycles were money pits. Not nearly as much as the Dodge.

I've been in the house since 2017 and so far I've replaced the garage door and track, garage door opener, water heater, roof, and outside/inside HVAC systems. The house was built in 2000.
