Accidentally dropped something in the mail 2 weeks ago that had no postage on it.  It did, however, have a return address label.

How long does it usually take that shit to loop its way back to me?

I figured I'd see it within a week.

Thanks.

When I make that mistake, the letter is usually back in my mailbox within a week

Write where you want to go  as the return address and don’t waste a stamp.

They may send it and have postage due at the other end

Last time I did that by accident, the mail man drew an arrow on the envelope pointing to where the stamp should have been and put it back in my mailbox. Saved me some hassle. Won't work if you dropped it in a box, of course.

Twice we’ve had the post office deliver and attempt to collect from us, once they left with an item and the other said fuck it.

Switch the addresses, neglect postage, return to “sender” for free?

4 things could happen.

It gets sent and caught on the delivery end and they'll try to collect from the recipient.

It gets returned to you for postage.

No one notices and it gets delivered.

It gets shredded by machine and lost.

2¢ stamp and no return address = postage due for the recipient.

You don’t need money at my post office.  The kiosk accepts EBT.

I forgot once. The letter came back two days later with a note from the mailman I owed 49 cents for postage. I put 49 cents in the mail box with the letter and it was sent.

I remember doing it  once. It took almost 4 weeks to get back to me.

It was to the IRS. It cost me a few bucks in penalties and interest.

They will deliver it with postage due, making the recipient pay the postage.

Side note, i never buy stamps. I just put $.50 in the mail box with the letter. The carrier will place a stamp at the post office for me. I do live in a very rural area, and the post office probably only services 125 addresses.

Not sure if they really fall for that one... especially if it's in a different town.

My mail guy will put a stamp on it and put one of those collection envelopes in the mailbox for whatever the stamp price is. This is using my mailbox for pickup.
