Yes, the "A5" is a bit longer than your standard carbine / collapsible buffer tube set up... but you can definitely use a regular carbine buffer tube with the 20 inch rifle gas system as well.

Here is some CAD models I did of the M16 open bolt trigger group. I forgot I had done these a while back. One day I'll get off my butt and make an animation showing it.

Very nice.  How long is the hammer held back for before it drops, or is it moving before the bolt even closes?

The hammer is held back until the bolt is fully locked and the carrier trips the auto sear. I will see if I have some time this weekend to see if I can make a complete detailed animation.

Both PSA uppers. Left is Spikes lower G.I. stocks on both. Right is a poverty pony lower and a mix of old colt parts.

It doesn’t usually wear the Mini4, and very rarely wears the bipod.

A 20-inch AR I made with an old M16 kit and a Nodak spud retro lower.

A 20-inch PSA barrel with an RRA A2 upper on and Anderson lower,

And a 20-inch A2 take-off barrel I got from Sarco with a Brownell's C7 uppper on a PSA NoBeto lower.

Not true. There is a lot of Chinese junk out there. There are also two heights. Make sure you get the mil spec height. And junk handles will not retain zero.

Finally got my PSA A2 lower mated to the A2 upper I ended up building.

Parts list:
PSA A2 Lower
No name LPK
Colt A2 grip
Geisselle QMS trigger
Take off FN A2 stock assembly (from Shark Arms)

3-dot/Keyhole A2 upper (from the EE)
BCM 20" gov't profile barrel assembly (from the EE)
Aero Precision A2 handguards
No-name BCG (supposedly they're unmarked Colt manufacture according to Shark Arms)

I threw on my old OD green adjustable carry strap/sling from when I was in.

I can't wait to shoot this thing!

I had one, then I sold it. Then I built another because I wanted one just like what I sold. Took me a long time to find an A2 upper receiver. It's a mutt of a gun, don't know how it shoots as I haven't fired it. I think it has a Green Mountain barrel.
