??#BREAKING: A massive fire is in progress at a shopping center in #Warsaw | #Poland A fire broke out in a vast shopping center housing 1,400 shops and service outlets in the Bialoleka district in Poland’s capital WARSAW, Poland -- A fire broke out on Sunday morning in a vast shopping center housing 1,400 shops and service outlets in the Bialoleka district in Poland's capital. The fire brigade said more than 80% of the center was on fire, and rescue operations were being carried out by 50 teams, including chemical and environmental rescue specialists. Footage aired by private broadcaster TVN24 showed thick black smoke rising over the area. Authorities sent a text message warning Warsaw residents about the fire and to stay home with the windows closed. A police spokesperson told the news agency PAP there were no injuries reported. Shopping centers and large shops are usually closed on Sunday due to a ban on trade installed by the previous government which had close ties to the Catholic church, viewing it as a day of worship. Such outlets are exempt from the ban only about half a dozen Sundays a year, giving people the chance to shop ahead of Christmas and Easter and other events. https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/fire-burns-entire-shopping-center-housing-1400-outlets-110142724 Videos in aerial videos in the tweets.

What the heck was going on near the van at the 1:25 mark. Looked like someone was throwing something that was on fire.

Enough with these silly, made-up commie units: How big is this mall-fire in school busses ?

Not a fire fighter, so tell me: is there any point to spraying water on the building at that stage, or is it just for show?

Russians or Muslims? Let's get some odds going.

I was sure that was 11 million square miles and Poland was just gone. The shopping mall thing threw me.

View Quote I think there’s an error in there somewhere. 11.9 million sq meters comes out to roughly 3k acres, and that building looks less than a kilometer on a side (1million sq meters) Edit - 119,000 sq meters seems more likely 2nd edit - footprint. Too lazy to see how many floors they have. |

Something makes me think this was intentional. If not it must have been something serious; gas leak/explosion around something flammable? I can't imagine a normal fire not being suppressed by fire systems and local fire departments before becoming that large.

No fire suppression systems?

I’m just amazed that there was a functional mall of that size still in operation somewhere. Around me all the malls were either demolished or turned into library or hospital extensions with a few being bought by mega churches and converted.

Who is going to pay taxes on all that carbon being released.

Maybe like how you burn a firebreak in a forest fire, they are making a firebreak to save the parking lot. |

View Quote There is a very big three-story Mall in the center of Warsaw right across from the Train Station. It puts the one on fire to shame. The one on fire is on the outskirts. |
