So I’ve always enjoyed taking my dags for long walks when my body feels up to it. On Sunday I had a friend go with me.  Here’s some pics from our walk on an abandoned farm my hounds like to bark on.

Both of my coonhound are rescues, my Black and Tan was actually shot in the face and had reconstructive surgery. No one wanted him, and I rescued him from death row.

This is Hank, my Treeing Walker

And here’s “easy walking” Jack he’s a struggle every day.  He’s come a long way in a year, but has a long way to go. His happy attitude always makes my day. He is always happy despite having almost starved to death, and getting shot.

Just thought I’d share. Everyone loves a good dag story

Here’s Jack when I got him Attachment Attached File

Here’s his facial reconstruction Attachment Attached File

No wonder my boys call him “old iron Jaw”

Here’s him running, notice how muscular he is
Attachment Attached File

That is the picture I’m most proud of. He had no muscle when I got him, he could barely stand.

This is Hank on his gotcha day with my boys in the background

Hank has been in my life for roughly two months. He’s still a bit skinnier than I’d like, but doing great. You can’t tell from the pictures but he had mange and was pretty much bald on his belly, legs and his sides were thin.  Diamond in the rough!

Jack has been so good for my boys and I. I’ve been rewarded by seeing him continually progress.  It’s been really difficult. He was such a difficult dog at first. Once trust was established, it got a little easier. It’s taken a year for his food aggression to get under control. He’s still very suspicious of everything when food is out. At first, he’d attack anything and everyone that got near his food bowl. It sucked hard

Good man for caring for the injured dog.  In fact, most excellent.  Merry Christmas to you and yours.  People like you who help out animals like you did, go a long way toward improving my fairly dismal view of most people.  Thank you for that.

Me too. I’ve had dags since I was a little boy. Never had a non-rescue. Can’t imagine shelling out a ton of coin on a dag when so many need a good home.  I won’t say I don’t list after a well documented Bloodhound, or Irish Wolfhound but there are simply too many that need homes.

Here he was in his glory days. His favorite thing besides fishing with me was wearing a harness and pulling me on my rollerblades. My wife drove next to us one day to check the speed. 22mph.

Good on ya, OP and good looking dags but I have a soft spot for my coonhounds, both rescues. got a bluetick..my black and tan died this year.
Not easy dogs, they were both challenging.
Eventually I just let them run in the fields or woods that I’m familiar with. Never had one not come back within an hour.

Here’s Pretty Boy.

Thanks. One day I almost found out the hard way that he shits on the run without breaking stride. He just lifted his tail a bit higher and started dropping bombs. That's fun when you're flying down the road.

They are challenging breeds. Very neat dogs though. As ornery as they are they are 10x more loving. I really enjoy seeing them flip their switch too. They’re so incredibly focused when their prey drive kicks in.

Allen County. The perlins in that barn are a work of art. It’s not really safe to take the dogs in, but I’ve looked on my own. Craftsmanship at its finest.

It's a rescue hound thread.

The cream colored Russian Wolfhound was said and thought to be going blind. We brought him home last week. Our 6 month old puppy (not a rescue) eats cats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
