I had to dig out an old mini digital voice recorder for a project that I'm working on.
I have no idea where the USB cable that came with it is located, so no offloading the files.

Does anyone know what USB this is, and would it still be available?

Attachment Attached File

Thanks

Back in the day, lots of manufacturers used proprietary miniature connectors for usb cables.

This was to ensure you used THEIR cable.

Who makes the recorder?

This. It probably doesn't just have USB on it either. Some companies used the same port to route sound out, or maybe in this case a mic.

Old phones were really bad about this.  It insured you had to buy their headset if you wanted a wired one.

It's a Profusion Voice Pro.
I can't find any reference to it online.

I guess I'm shit out of luck.

It has a 1/8" mic input and a 1/8" headphone output.

I need the USB to offload the files. My laptop doesn't have a 1/8" input.

I searched for a user manual, and all of the sites are trash, don't click any of those links.

If you have a 3.5mm output, get a male/male cable and plug to the line in of your computer.
Download Audacity, hit play on the device and record to a new file.

Thank you. Now I need to figure this out since I've never done this before

Looks like the USB cable that came with a handheld document scanning wand I bought like 13 years ago.  It was a tiny D shaped plug on one end and a regular USB A on the other.  I haven't seen a cable like it before or since.

I guess I'll have to wait until I can afford to get another one.

If you upload a picture of the device information tag/model number it could help track down a user manual or cable.

Looks like it's made by a company called Forus. There's a couple used ones on ebay, one of them for sure has the cable with it, if you need it as a last resort. I haven't been able to find out anything about the USB cable that comes with it.

For the Audacity error make sure it’s set to the right input.

Might be a FireWire connector.

That was my first thought...but it’s not.  FireWire was mostly for video, and short lived.

Appears to be OOP, Amazon used to sell them.
It's entirely possible that nothing in current production uses the same cable.

This looks like the same connector in this blog. He says it’s a serial port not usb on the device he has.

And this is the cable end.

Those recorders are now $30 for a basic one.  Decent ones are only $50.

Get an old phone and use the app on it instead.  Try pawn shops for those, or even those recorders.

If you need THOSE PARTICULAR recordings then you need to use the play feature and input into a mic on some other device.

You have to be really careful with some of those old devices and USB cables.

I have an old MP3 player (Diamond Rio 500) which looks like it uses a regular USB cable, but it is wired different.  To this day I keep the OEM cable in a bag with it so that I don't forget and use the wrong cable (if I use it again).

Doesn’t VLC have a mic in option to record line level input?
Here’s how
