U.S. Bishops Urge Shift in Focus from Skin Color to Character

The leader of the U.S. Bishops’ Conference (USCCB), Los Angeles Cardinal José Gomez, lamented Friday that unfortunately, in America it is still true that skin color often matters more than the “content of our character.”

“For much of the past year, America has been reckoning with the legacy of slavery and the persistence of racial injustice in our country,” Archbishop Gomez said in his January 15 message for Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

“Sadly, it is still true that the ‘color of our skin’ often matters more in our society than the ‘content of our character,’ as Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., said a half-century ago,” the archbishop noted.
***
“As we witnessed in the violence in our cities last summer and in the violence that broke out again last week at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., our country has become too angry, too bitter, and too divided,” the archbishop said.

I think the Bishops are not seeing the forest for the trees here,  someone needs to let them on this little secret; You can't wield "Character" like a weapon against your foes.

As soon as they saw millions of “people of color” showing their support of Donald Trump, they knew they needed to move on to something else.

There is a multi trillion dollar industry and political control apparatus built around judging people by skin color and NOT by content of their character. Why do you want to disenfranchise all those SJWs, OP?

Things weren’t bad in more civilized areas before Obama.    People didn’t hate eachother,   since then there seems to be more racial murder and violence.   (it ain’t whitey either) .   Sad for any murder but to propegate hate in other people.......who did that? Not Trump, Obama did.

That is my point exactly, it is awful naive for these Bishops to actually believe that the racial divide in this country exists because of skin color.

No, the left can't wield "character" like a weapon. The right has done it for years and with a great deal of success. Of course, I left the word "character" in quotes for a reason...
