My wife and I both have made more money, both at work and in the market, under Trump than under any other president. And yes I know it's all relative with inflation and whatnot, but we are still overall way way way way ahead.

Trump only called out one.  Trump only targeted one.  Trump only called one Republican Rep in the US House a RINO.  Trump blamed that one Republican for everything.  You repeated the name.

Things have already gone sideways because of Trump fluffers

Just wondering why you think people being critical of Trump will cause things to go sides?  Do you think Trump is that weak and fragile that he will fail if everyone doesn't white knight for him?

The vast majority of this site did exactly that. Everything that followed has been easily predictable - though I'll admit it's probably gone better than I expected.

Anyone who couldn't see this coming from Trump back when he started agitating in '08 was a moron.

The republican presidential primary is very flawed. An open field then the winner is the one person who is a little more popular than the entire rest of the field. It absolutely should be whittled down to the 2 or 3 most popular candidates against each other, not against 12 other people. Whoever shows up with a few more hard-core supporters, wins. The overall most popular candidate does not win, because the votes are split.

I would say people are criticizing Trump because 1) we think things have already gone a little “sideways” and/or 2) we’re worried things are about to go “sideways” in the midterms.

In 2018, I didn’t think the Republicans really did anything to justify the blue wave. The Democrats still don’t have any answers and they don’t deserve to benefit from the GOP’s incompetence, but at least this time around I can understand the unhappiness with the GOP’s job performance.

Exactly.  In 2018 not much had changed for the better but things didn't get worse.  This time, other than the border security, federal gun rights, and the stock market, pretty much everything has gotten worse.  My US House race is now tied, it is most likely going to flip D.  So damn right I am going to be critical of the events that have led to that being possible.  Uncle Trump better get his ass to my district, campaign, and throw $30 million towards my US Reps race to make sure it doesn't flip.  I doubt he does any of those and then I get a liberal Dem Rep.

The saying "It is the economy stupid" still applies and the daily economy for the working class sucks!  Even if Trump issued $5,000 before the election most people would say their daily life sucks given chuck steak is now $11.00 a pound and gas is over $4.00 a gallon.

Here are the issues the Dem candidate for my House district is running on:

End the Trade War and Get Costs Down for Kentucky Families
Stop Endless Wars in the Middle East
Root Out Corruption and Restore Integrity to Government
Rebuild the American Dream - People who work full-time should make enough money to feed their families and pay their bills.
Strengthen Our Schools and Invest in the Next Generation
Commonsense Immigration Reform - ICE is out of control right now; one need look no further than their killings of two Americans
Make Healthcare Affordable for Everyone
Commonsense Regulation for AI and Data Centers
Let women make their own healthcare decisions  - abortion

What is the Republican candidate running on?  The fuck if I know?  I didn't even remember his name until I looked it up.  He has done a shit job campaigning.  The biggest part of his website is "SEND ME MONEY".   Then it rambles about healthcare.

Uh... ignoring the obvious inaccuracy of that figure, tariffs are paid for by the US importer who likely passes most or all of that additional cost down to the US consumer/taxpayer; so, Trump is claiming that he's taking in 21T in tariffs by effectively taxing the US taxpayer and paying back 1T as a thank you only if Republicans win the midterms. What a deal.

The fuck? The people paying these massive tariffs are me, and you. Americans are paying them.
I'm starting to get a little dizzy trying to keep up with the money that I am paying, then getting back as a gift or bribe, then paying again.

People forget or dont understand that tariffs are not really supposed to be paid by the consumer. Its a business tool, and the business importing should hit back on suppliers for reduced cost. You are arfcom and import aluminum billets or trigger guards manufactured in china or canada. The tariff raises price of those by 25%. Its now a price increase on your supplies. I am the billet maker or trigger guard supplier in china. You come at me for a reduction so your domestic inputs stay the same, or way less that 25%. I want to keep your business so i drop 12% or more. and/or you start trying to source other billets or trigger guards at a cheaper price elsewhere to. That keeps the prices much lower than the 25% and puts overseas/exporter money into uncle sams pocket. Now if arfcom is lazy and just wants to pass the cost on to the consumer, its up to the consumer to start looking at other sellers for trigger guards or billets cheaper. Eventually, most of the tariff should be put on the exporter.

Dont support lazy business.

Only a lazy business lays down and passes the complete tariff. I wont stand for it, i will source elsewhere for products that are cheaper. Its not instant but pressure needs to be put on the business importing. Or, you can just reward a business for not being a business. All the candidates in Texas were two issues

(1) The Republican was going to stop Texans from being ruled by "Sharia Law" ...

I'm glad they will bravely "stop" some Saudi sheik with a scimitar from beheading me for sipping a Shiner on a sizzling summer 🍺 (Rofl2)

(2) And how absolutely, totally & completely they would be subservient to the person of Donald Trump.

Speaking of the $2,000 tariff checks. Dems always block it then play like they didn't have anything to do with it. They will try to block the $5,000 checks then blame Trump for not sending them out.

The businesses that sued the Trump Admin got SCOTUS to overturn the liberation day tariffs. Not everything on Twitter is true…

Also, if Trump never used an EO to raise those tariffs in the first place, none of those businesses would have gotten those refunds and that money would have stayed in the US consumers’ pockets.

Same goes for the $5000 “dividends.”
It’s unnecessary redistribution of wealth.

So pretty much the same point.
Democrats blocked tariffs.

So the Heavily Conservative SCOTUS are "Democrats" ...

Trump improperly abused Executive Orders to grossly exceed a law passed for EMERGENCY usage of Tariffs for his idiotic trade war.

SCOTUS called it correctly.

A business owner should frequently be "shopping" suppliers to ensure adequate supply capacity & price stability (or hopefully  price reductions that can be passed on to customers or off set price increases on other components).

However there are numerous situations were there is absolutely NO "domestic alternatives" for businesses to "switch" suppliers.

Diesel engine manufacturers won't remove the emissions systems, knowing full well that the political winds will shift in a few years and those same systems will be required again.

That’s the way I see it too, all that investment costs to develop cleaner burning engines are sunk costs, they’re not going anywhere. Sure auto start/stop maybe will go away but DEF/Regen systems/ cylinder deactivation isn’t going away.

IMO the choice for consumers is to look really hard at hybrid and full EV’s to break the cycle. Not really a choice for commercial and heavy haul folks at this point.

Yea... if you follow Peoples Pundit at all.. you know things are not looking good. My initial thought that this will be reminiscent of the Dems 2010 losses is looking more realistic than anything else.

So starting the tariffs are not a quick fix but consumerism will prevail. Personally I am for anything that forces domestic production. I’m not for choking people out financially all at once, and it involves some financial burden and political changed. But learning that we are at the mercy of China for heparin and penicillin based antibiotics is eye opening. Add in magnets and those 3 things could send us to a bad place if cut off. I think sourcing raw materials globally should be our base line, products should mostly be domestic made. Globalism is never fair and never secure.

Uh... ignoring the obvious inaccuracy of that figure, tariffs are paid for by the US importer who likely passes most or all of that additional cost down to the US consumer/taxpayer; so, Trump is claiming that he's taking in 21T in tariffs by effectively taxing the US taxpayer and paying back 1T as a thank you only if Republicans win the midterms. What a deal.

The fuck? The people paying these massive tariffs are me, and you. Americans are paying them.
I'm starting to get a little dizzy trying to keep up with the money that I am paying, then getting back as a gift or bribe, then paying again.

Yep, we are the US consumers/taxpayers and sometimes the importer. Trump gets the American people to pay the tariffs, but because the import gets the bill instead of the average person, the average Joe writes it off as inflation. Then when Joe gets a check for 5k he thanks President Trump instead of realizing that 5k cost him more than he got back. Like I said a “great deal.” (That last part is sarcasm.)

That’s assuming the foreign manufacturer has good margins or doesn’t have a better opportunity. I’m going to treat it as example 1 and example 2.

Example 1: Aluminum billet.
There are a lot of places to buy aluminum raw stock, but more importantly there are a lot of uses for aluminum raw stock. They have no shortage of buyers for aluminum.

Example 2: Trigger Guards.
I doubt trigger guards alone are keeping their lights on. They may be better off closing down those production lines than accept lower margins.

There are many industries where the exporter likely absorbed some of the cost, but the overall price went up. When the price of foreign produced goods go up, domestic goods follow.

To incentivize voters to cast ballots for Republicans, President Trump used his convention speech to promise a dividend of $5,000 to every adult citizen if the Republican Party maintains control of Congress in the midterm election.

"If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000," he said. "It will be called the Trump dividend, congratulations."

Trump did not provide details about where the money would come from or the legality of his promise. According to the most recent Census data, it could cost $1 trillion or more to provide these payments.

If he does it, will we have a thread discussing what gun you're buying with the taxpayer's money that was redistributed to you to pay you for voting how our political patron wanted us to?

Decent on some things, good on a tiny few, and then sometimes, spectacularly dumb.

It would be so good if our fedgov was shrunk down to the point where nobody cared who president was because the fedgov didn't matter outside of wartime.

This is correct. So many don't understand this

I suspect it would take years to undo that, and the refineries would have to be able to turn those production pipelines and processes back on, and if they assessed the risk of the next junta coming into the white house as undoing it all, they'd (rightly) say "nope, not wasting the resources to do it on something that the feds can just taksies-backsies on."

You realize some businesses go to supply houses that buy goods in bulk from distributors, right?

If you go to McMaster-Carr and look at some of their screws, they’ll have like 10 possible countries of origin listed.

That's fantasy.

The cost always works down to the final payer.

The final payer is always the consumer.

Businesses that try and eat the cost or spread it at the wholesale level will get their cookies taken by everyone that doesn't.

Niel boortz, back when he was on the air, was obnoxious and wrong about a whole bunch of things, but one of the things he wasn't wrong about is that all taxes are paid by individuals. You cannot undo this, it is effectively a law of reality.

Cost, btw, is not the price. Prices should be shaped by costs, but they are not the same thing.

Cost of a thing is the loss of opportunity you incurred to get that thing.

When you realize this and start tracking things as they move through the system, the false idea that you can isolate the costs from consumers comes into clear view.

Trump controls the election purse and is demanding campaigns highlighting how awesome he is with a 33% approval rating. He’s only exacerbating the uphill battle these candidates face.

This is hilarious. Who is the communists? Your guy, who already set a record deficit, wants to give every single person $5,000 if people vote how he wants. You are "thriving" yet for some reason you want that government handout even though it will hurt you and your family long term due to inflation. That is some true MAGA stuff right there. George Washington would be so proud of us.

And you call others leftists for being against handouts? And you think your favorite New York, lifelong democrat actually cares about your guns after saying "take the guns first, due process later"? MAGA lost the plot years ago, but this is pure hilarity. Some of you people are just living in bizzarro world.

edit: maybe this is satire, if so then good job

Just so I'm clear here:

Calling out Trump for promising $5K in DOGE payments (didn't/won't happen), $2K in tariff repayments (didn't/won't happen), $1K in ACA refunds (didn't/won't happen), and now a $5K bonus to voters if a bunch of Republicans win in the midterms (won't happen), we're now your adversaries, and no longer your countrymen?
