Qi35 max with a ventus blue 5s shaft. I hit them all except for Srixon and Mizuno. Hopefully the low heel weighting doesn't make for ugly hook misses. I would like to be able to move it left when it's called for. Something that wasn't in the cards with the 4yo cobra superspeed. |

Speaking of top of the bag, I learned an important lesson in shaft selection and forgiveness recently. My 7 wood is an Ai Smoke Max D with a Tensei blue 65S. I fucking love hitting that club and rarely have a miss. I picked up a 5 wood and 3 wood, both Ai Smoke Triple Diamond with stock Denali black shafts in 60S. I hated the shaft feel and couldn't hit them for shit so I traded them out to a 5 Max and 3 Max, both with the same shaft that's in the 7 wood and like magic, I hit all of my fairway woods extremely well now. Something about that Tensei shaft just feels right and really works with my swing. Landing a ball on the green from 190+ feels good. |

i went for a woods fitting not long ago at 1.50 golf in Gulfport, MS. great store. i had driver/4 hybrid stock g430 alta CB black in both at the top of my bag, with stock settings, golf pride midsize grips. for reference driver swing speed in the 90-95 range. hybrid went about 185 consistently and driver about 220 at best, usually less to the point there was not a ton of difference between driver and hybrid sometimes. i thought i wanted a 7 wood because i needed a 200 yard club from fairway and for certain holes at my usual course. i previously had a g425 3 wood which was amazing on 1/10 shots and horrible on 9/10 shots. i also had a pull/hook issue with all clubs. after taking a lot of shots it was determined with my swing speed a 7 wood would do me no good and basically fly the same as the hybrid. guy had me try jumbo max grips which eliminated hook/pull because it discourages you being handsy. that was a revelation as it also has the benefit of keeping my right hand from being stove up as bad. i go to the range a lot and had been waking up at night with my right hand being all stove up. i use an overlap grip. at first i tried it on driver and 7 iron. anyway, I wound up with a ventus velocore plus red shaft 5-R with a ping tip for my G430 max head, set big flat minus, with the weight in fade position, and a Qi35 max lite 5 wood with a project x cypher 50 5.5 (regular) 3 wood shaft- can't remember the settings but probably similar to other woods. the 5 wood is an amazing fairway finder and carries 200 with a high trajectory, and my driver is averaging another 10-15 yards from before. i could probably game that 5 wood on every hole as it flies pretty far with a much narrower dispersion pattern than driver. further, the hybrid goes about the same distance as before but is also set at big flat minus which has eliminated the pulls/hooks. bottom line a wood fitting has made a big improvement for me and was well worth the coin. I also wound up putting jumbo max medium grips on all clubs. after trying them on 2 clubs over 2 months i noticed no difference in distance and far less pulls and a lighter grip pressure. only negative i can say is that when it's colder the jumbo max grips seem less grippy, but for 10+ months that is not an issue on the gulf coast. my woods went from a weakness to a strength. |

Rogue ST Max 10.5 set to 9.5 Paradym 3W high loft (Since Callaway can't call a 4W a 4W...) 16.5 Titleist 818 H1 4 Hybrid I've debated updating the Hybrid but the old 818 H1 series just hits so well. Same thing with the Rogue. I really like the GT2, but my Rogue has been good to me. I've gotta get one with a similar shaft to test head to head with the Rogue and see what the distance, spin, and dispersion looks like. I've also debated going from a S to X shaft in the driver as I swing in the range where people can really play either or. I've played with my buddy's X shaft and it lowered my clubhead speed about 4mph which was a surprise and definitely felt "boardy". I should probably just do a driver fitting with multiple shafts and see what works best with my head. |

Well, after all the talk and thinking, I signed up for a driver fitting. I hit my driver extremely well yesterday on the course but with some larger dispersion. Luckily I wasn't punished too bad and my misses were in the right place still allowing me to score. But as I've done a lot of speed training my speed has gone up, so has my dispersion and I have less need for loft now. We'll see if my Rogue ST with maybe a bit different shaft can dial things in a bit or where it goes. The bad news is, the guy was booked out for 3 weeks so I've got some time before my fitting. |

Well a GT2 and Ventus Red 6-X will be coming my way in about a week! Surprised I got fit into the Red to be honest. Its marketed as a higher launching higher spinning shaft which isn't usually something I need but it was the easiest for me to swing and get the best dispersion compared to the blue or black shafts. I've only ever hit stock blue stiff shafted off the rack drivers and I've been hitting my rogue ST max very well this season. We'll see what happens with the new big stick on the course. |

Well after looking at my new driver setup and comparing to my 3W and 4h, I seem to have a shaft issue with my 3W. My shafts will be: Driver: 67.5g Ventus Red 6-x 3W: 62g Hzrdus Gen 4 Silver 60 Stiff 4H: 83g Atmos Blue Tour Spec 8S The gapping on the driver and 4h look correct and I like the feel of the Atmos Blue I have in there (Let alone the 818 H1 titleist head that is still going strong nearly 7 years later. Maybe I'll swap out to a GT head if I try it at a fitting) But now my 3W shaft is lighter than my driver shaft. They used to be about the same at 59 and 62g respectively. I might have to mess around with some woods shafts at the PGASS and see if I notice any big differences between shafts. |

Driver Titleist TSR2 with AD tour IZ 3 and 5w are Taylor Made Qi10s. Settled on them last year. Best group I have had in over a decade, maybe longer. |

My current gamer bag is mostly Titleist. GT3 driver, TSR2 3&5 woods, Taylormade QI35 Tour 7w, T150 Irons, Cleveland Tour rack 56 (bent 55) and 60 wedge, L.A.B. putter. My travel bag is a lot of Cobra, Darkspeed X driver, Radspeed 3&5w, King Tec gen 2 hybrid, Srixon ZX7 irons, Vokey sm9 55 and 60, Scotty Cameron Putter. My Taylormade bag is Qi10 blackout driver, Sim Ti 3w, Stealth Ti 5w, Stealth 2 Hybrid, P760 irons, Tour Preferred 56 and a TW 60 wedges. Putter is a custom Spider S Platinum plumbers neck. |

Ive gone out and played a few rounds on both the sim and real life with the new GT2. Compared to the Rogue ST Max I was playing before and a 55gr stiff shaft I've noticed the GT2 can achieve 1.51 smash in the sim even on slight mishits. I've never achieved a 1.51 smash with the old Callaway even though I hit that driver very well. 1.49-1.50 was always the top for me on good hits with about 275 carry normalized (106-108 swing speed and ~158-162 ball speed). I get the same numbers now on good hits, but it feels like I can get away with very playable shots with only minor distance loss on mishits compared to before. The shaft difference seems to be the biggest changer for me. IDK if its the flex profile (red vs blue), stiffness (x-stiff now vs stiff old), or weight (66 vs 59), but the ball launches and spins a little lower for me (2000-2200 now compared 2400-2700 before). Interesting since the red shafts are typically "Med/High launch and spin". This has tightened up my dispersion and has made my miss more of a lower runner ball instead of a ballooning shot (not that I can't still balloon one up with 3500 spin). The fitter has me at the D-1 setting currently which is a 1.5 open face and my stock shot now is a more straight or slight fade vs a high draw like I hit with my old setup. Overall there are a lot of things that changed so I couldn't pinpoint one thing or the other that specifically changed with the driver. But so far I've enjoyed the GT2 and the dispersion has tightened up for me where my misses aren't as big as they were with an off-the-shelf driver with a stock shaft. Swing is feeling good overall. Decided to hit some more aggressive drives yesterday and they ended up being great scoring opportunities. |

Just returning to golf after 9 years. A friend retired a few years before me and wants to golf. I didn't have a formal fitting, but knew my Ping ISI-K Orange were just a bit off for me. Turns out I'm Black dot. To get things started, I grabbed a set of SIM2 MAX irons, graphite Regular My driver is a my old 10.5 Maxfli, with a 5 wood and 4 hybrid to match. In the simulator, I hit the driver fine. Putter is an old Ping Anser 2 V that I won years ago. I like it fine, but will get fitted. I messed with a TM Spider DB mallet and like that as well. I used to swing...too hard at times. In the simulator, I did fine. On my first 9 hole outting, I swung so hard on one shot, I pulled a lat muscle (EDIT, thinking about it, I likely bruised the left Lat, when I swung my 5 WAY too hard and took a huge divot. That freakin hurt. 5 days and it still hurts. I notice I rush to keep pace moving. I need to work on that. On the upside, I lost 1 ball in 9 holes |

Now that I got my swing somewhat sorted out, I can hit 300+ balls in a session and not hurt myself. Gotta remember it's technique, not brute strength. Guys like Bhatia are driving it over 300 and that dude doesn't have an ounce of muscle on his body. I did chunk an 8 iron so bad on the driving range a few weeks ago that I mildly sprained my wrist. That sucked. |

That sucked. Thanks. This was definitely one shot. I went with a friend, but we let two others join us. My issue, in life really, is that like Tony Soprano, my life is in the rearview mirror. It drives my wife crazy when I'm driving. "who cares what's going on behind you? If they hit you, it's their fault. Pay attention to what's in front of you." Same thing with golf, self checkout, pizza counter, you name it. I'm more concerned with folks waiting on me than I am with what I'm doing. It comes largely from me always being in a rush and expecting those behind me to be in a rush as well. I'M RETIRED. TAKE IT FREAKIN EASY! I will test this theory by golfing by myself. I guarantee I do better, and not by using my foot iron! An older timer gave me this tip for a swing. Backswing, say Marilyn, then begin forward swing, Monroe. I think I need Mickey Mouse instead to calm things down first! |

Less expensive launch monitors are less accurate with club speed, or don’t read it at all (SkyTrak) and they just use an algorithm to guess. This makes smash readings basically irrelevant. They’re all pretty accurate with ball speed so that’s all you should really be looking at if you’re not using a high-end monitor. |

I dunno, it’s still a really good driver. I have the core model and if it spun 300 rpm less without changing anything else I wouldn’t have bothered trying anything else. I know lots of people that need that extra 300 rpm. I didn’t spend much time hitting the Qi35 LS head because it felt like there was a big miss lurking. The Qi10 that those guys won’t get rid of is the “dot” model that isn’t available retail. It’s a tour issue head that sits right between the core and LS in spin. |

Update: The G440 LST is firmly in my bag. I actually sold the Qi35 a couple days ago while it’s still worth something. The Graphite Design VF 6-TX beat out my Ventus shafts. I have a Diamana Whiteboard 63-TX on the way just because I’ve heard good things and want to try it. |
