I alternate between a 3 wood and 5 wood in my bag depending on what course I'm playing and the conditions (wet and slow, hot and dry). Some courses don't have a 3 wood shot for me, so I carry the 5 wood instead. Or vice versa. I do have a 7 wood that I've used since 2013 when I joined a club that had year round 5 inch rough on an old Donald Ross design. If you didn't drive the ball well that day and had 220 out of the rough, you can't get an iron through it. I just play the factory x stiff shafts in them and they work fine for me. Sometimes I hook the 7 wood. |

Golf must be the only thing where people observe what the highest skilled 125 people on the planet do and think that applies to them. If I played basketball one day per week I wouldn't toss up seventeen 3 pointers per game like Steph Curry. No one would that had any common sense. |

Albeit skilled, strong Ams hit it as far or farther, club to club, than Touring Pros do. Sean124, and others here, all hit it as far or farther than the median Pro. What they don't do, unlike the Pros, is hit that shot consistently. It is pretty damned silly if you don't have that kind of club speed and control though. And there still shouldn't be a rollback for everyone. Reading back, if Sean's saying the TX Hulk is rebar...that's a solid, "Nope!", for me. The Ventus Black 7X is an absolute kick in the ass though. I imagine the 8X is too. I liked the 7 woods I've tried, but they just go so ridiculously high for me. And my lower hybrids have developed a bad case of the lefts. Which leads to me freaking out at any hint of a closed face at address, and...it's not great. |
