My wife and kids hightailed it out of NY last spring leaving me behind to clean out and sell the house since my wife's new job needed her asap. As I was loading up the U Haul the front brakes on my Tundra needed replacing and so did the rear tires.
I wasn't going to drive it out anyways and I didn't want to try to tow it with the uhaul-thank God I cannot imagine towing that truck from Denver to Utah. So it sits in NY, front brakes shot, rear tires bald, 300+K miles and dented up. Getting it towed out here is probably $ 2k. Who knows what for brakes. I bet I'll be in for $3k plus, I drove 50k miles a year and was always replacing rotors and other parts of seems like. No trip to the shop was just for new pads. I already bought a used F-250 in Utah. The Tundra tactical even had me kind of cringing driving the kiddos around in it. But it's as mechanically sound as any 10 year old high mileage Toyota (shrug). My wife probably wants me to junk it. Winter is coming and I need to tow it out here to junk it. |

Auction it off right here on arfcom .
Id go like $500 to drive your old truck to the range and shoot the fuck out of it . |

She's Gone. Write her off...
The frame is probably about ready to break as well. |
|
I’ll bet you can get $5k for it nowadays. Start the auction at a penny.

I have a friend with a flower farm that may need it for a field truck
She is in NY in Macedon area. I will be in NY the end of November if you are looking at getting rid of it |

Just go back and get it and drive it to Utah. Then sell it if you don't want it. You could drive it back a lot cheaper that having it towed.
|
|
If that was a western truck she would still be worth a lot. Being from NY that frame is not long for the scrap yard.

2000 miles? All you need is a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, and wear sunglasses.
Epic road-tripping shouldn't make economic sense. Eat gas station sushi at your first gas stop. You won't spend much on food for the rest of the trip. |
|
Lemme see. $400 for rear tires, $300 for pads/rotors (using good stuff from rock auto) and it becomes very drivable. Yeah under the sheet metal the frame is likely almost gone but scrapping it out should be easy once you get it to its new home.
Or shucks, donate it for a tax write off. This doesn’t sound hard. |
|
Park it in the rough part of town with a For Sale sign on it for $5,000.
It’ll be stolen by nightfall. |
|
he has lots of offers on it but seems to just want to complain that he has it lol

No problems with it, that would go for 10k up there
5-7k no problem I sold a gas f350 with 270k miles, all rusted out and a rusty plow for 5k last year, and people were tripping over themselves to get there Sold it in 1hr, in the dark for full asking price. I just couldn’t ask more than I paid for it 4 years earlier |
|
Use part of that $2000 it would cost to have it hauled out to have brakes and tires installed and then drive it out. If you can't do it yourself, I bet we could set up an ARFcom relay like Semper Fi dog rescue to get it there. Though I'm not sure I would want any of these degenerates driving my truck, much less several of them.

I’ll go pick it up for $650 or throw me a price, and a box of 9mm.
I’m up in NY this month too. Holler at me! |

@aimless
I just did the opposite. My 2002 is my "ah shit, I need to haul something" emergency vehicle. When I moved from vegas to Ohio I had to make a stop in Denver. The original plan was the tundra hauling my 12 foot trailer to do the last trip. Couple days before I left, I found some serious issues on the tundra. Sold the trailer that night and rented a 15' uhaul with double axle car hauler the next day. My bike went in the tundra bed, then my crap went in the uhaul, then the tundra got loaded on the hauler, and off I went. Had some trailer sway most of the trip, but keeping it to 55-60 kept it manageable......until Colorado. As I came out of the tunnel and started the downhill, it all went to shit, really bad sway, almost wrecked out twice until I finally gave up and accepted the hate by dropping to 2nd gear and just pussy rolling down the hill, anything over 30mph was undoable for about a half hour. A lot of middle fingers and horn honks later, things got better. I would do it again if needed, but 0% chance the trip would go through Denver. |

Send the keys to a friend and have him leave it running at a gas station.

Lift it. Armor it with ar500. Put some lockers in it. Then the important part, get a .50 mount for the bed and buy your first machine gun.

Send the keys and signed title to a pal in New York. Add a note that the pickup is free.
Park it some place with foot traffic, put that stuff on the front seat, and forget about it. Or, fix the minor problems and let us relay it to Utah. |

Someone on arfcom in NY will feel sorry for you and take it and give it a new home.

Was in a similar situation a few years back, and had the same options.
Ended up driving it across country with a bunch of fluids and tools in the back. Aside from getting crappy gas mileage the trip was completely uneventful. |

Already have a new truck and dont need it? Sell that NY rust bucket. Maybe use a service like carvana or the like so you can sell it remotely?

Maybe he's honing his argument here before he pleads his case to |

I wouldn't mind having that. (Thought it was a 1st gen Tundra)
|
|
Drive it home.
Put another 700k on it and Toyota will give you another truck. |
|
Have a NY friend or Arfcommer sell it for you. 20% commission as a "thank you". You'll get way more than junking it and not have to deal with transporting it.
