Taurus 6” model 66. I was 14 when i saved up the mowing, hay and tobacco money ($150) to buy it new. Virginia allowed open carry and a minor could carry as long as you were doing farm work, which I pretty much always was.
That summer i ran iinto a state trooper at the local country store. We were both getting a sandwich and drink. He said he liked my revolver, asked what it was and if he could see it. I told him what it was, thanked him for the compliment and said that no, he could not see it because it was loaded. He just smiled and told me to be careful and went on his way. Things were so much better then. |

S&W 686 or Colt Python.
Because .357 Magnum SJHPs vastly outperformed any bullet that would feed through a pistol at that time. If it absolutely had to be an autoloader for whatever reason then a SIG P220 in .45 ACP. |

Quoted: Back in the 80's we didn't have as many choices as we have now. Revolvers were still popular then, and the state of the art Glock was just brand new. I don't even remember seeing any Glocks in any TV shows or movies back then. If I were back in 1985, I'd carry a S&W 645 or 1911 probably. I used to carry a 1911, it was a boat anchor. Times have changed so much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw135y5IL7c View Quote Major OP fail … Cites Miami Vice yet fails to mention Sonny’s 10mm Bren Ten. |

I would carry the same pistols I carry today: 1911 .45 or SAA .45 LC.

A colt 1908 made sometime in the 1930's.
My grandfather gave it to me. It was in the bottom of a cigar box full of morgan silver dollars. He said "shussssh" and I shussshed. |

FIE 9mm semi auto 9mm pistol I got straight across the counter at a pawn shop in Oak Cliff/Dallas Texas, just right down the street from the Texas Theater near Zang and Jefferson Blvd.
I was involved in collections and skipped and stolen merchandise primarily in South Dallas and it had its moments. I periodically went out of state as well tracking stolen merchandise and people down at night due to some of those areas tended to be high crime and dangerous. People in those areas tended not to fuck with you if you looked, acted, and moved around like they did. The best cover for success in those kinds of areas was to work your way in after hours and so forth. I got the weapon free in exchange for not reporting a number of stolen units for sale I found from serial numbers when I used to run places like that periodically. This was before carrying a gun in Texas was legal but I carried one especially at night on my person anyway. Strictly a throw away piece and I don't remember what ever happened to it. I do remember it had a fourteen round magazine and I only had the one that it came with. |

I was carrying an M16A1 and occasionally an M60, courtesy of the US Army.

Pretty sure Glocks weren’t commercial available here at that time. So realistically a 1911 would be my choice.

Winchester 141 I think. Bolt action .22 with a tube in the stock. Backup gun was a Winchester 1200. Wish I was the cool guy with an AUG but I was still in elementary school.

Smith 659. Wish I still had it, but I do know where it is if he hasn’t sold it.
