Picked up a bottle of Stagg Jr. Batch 15 yesterday afternoon.  Going to try it up against the 14 I've got.

The 14 is simply outstanding.  Incredible nose with a hint of alcohol, lots of fruit on the tongue with a bit of oak and caramel, the finish is excellent with just the slightest warmth.  At 130 proof, it's dangerous.

Just bought six of these at a store I checked out while traveling for work today. I buy the 750ml bottles at my usual store for $38.99. This particular store had the 750 priced at $49.99 but these 375s at $16.99. Go figure.

The owner knew they were making their living on reselling, but he had to make a living too I guess.  Soon after, he started marking everything up at secondary market prices and I just stopped going in.

Conversely, the current store I go to is dedicated to taking care of repeat locals.  They don't cater to collectors or resellers.  If you don't know who to ask, you're limited to strictly what is on the shelves...which honestly is full of premium bourbons anyway.

No, I'm in the northwest region of the state.  I'm hoping the owner maintains his business model.  The blackmarket resellers and collectors are like locusts though and ultimately a business exists to make money.

I am envious of you guys who get good stuff on the shelves. I can't find any of it around here for regular prices, if you can even find it. A few local stores got some things in, but you have to buy special "package deals" to get anything. Ex. 1.75L BT, Elijah Craig Toasted, and a 1792 Full Proof for like $240. Pass. I did see a bottle of Blanton's on the shelf of another but the price was $150. I've never seen Eagle Rare around here. EHT just once. $79.99. Same shop had Sazerac Rye for $70.

We seem to be pretty low on the distribution ladder.

Eagle rare is all over the place here.  A fifth is $30, A handle is $45.  I think it's an unremarkable bourbon myself.

Sazerac Rye at $70 is a holy shit price.  It sold for $24/bottle at my local shop until the bootleggers caught wind and hoarded it away.

Tonight was a bourbon bonanza. Wild Turkey 101, Woodford Reserve, Knob Creek, and Elijah Craig Small Batch.

I was most surprised with the Elijah Craig, even though I love Woodford.

I’ve had some Woodford today also.

I do like the Elijah Craig Small Batch, I may have a healthy pour of that tomorrow.

Tonight, I’m starting off by finishing off the last of a bottle of an entry level bourbon, Old Forester 86 proof. I keep quite a few varieties on hand including a couple lower proof budget bourbon for making cocktails for my wife and guests.

I bought a couple of bottle today and needed to make room in my cabinet so I’m emptying these last of a couple of these basic pours. For a $20 bourbon, OF86 is not bad at all. Nice spicy vanilla on the nose with a hint of floral. Smooth and slightly sweet on the tongue as you might expect from the lower proof. Very short finish with a bit of lingering cinnamon.

Sazerac is an easy to drink rye.  Less spicy than Russell's and Michters.  You can sip it on the rocks or make a mean Old Fashioned with it.

Generally in high demand.  Probably as much for its quality as its origins in the Buffalo Trace distillery.

At one time I could get it for $24.95, now I can't find it.

Like stated above, it’s not a very spicy rye but it is a nice smooth pour with just enough spice. Sips well neat or as an old fashioned. Highly recommend.
