I like Texas. But damn I feel for the energy company as Im only catching the people who fat finger the number. Which is quite a fuckin few

I had to deal with a guy who repeatedly fat fingered his email address to mine. Worst part is most of it was personal emails that he probably didn't want to others to know, like the time he got denied credit trying to buy a BMW or the time his landlord sent a ticket through his rental management software to let him know that maintenance wasn't responsible for plunging the toilet after a certain body movement that gets threads here locked.

Speaking of wrong numbers.

One of my duties at work is answering after hours telephone calls for animal control.  Unfortunately, the name of my city matches a City in Nevada and people OFTEN Google the city's name and animal control and click the first telephone number they see without noticing it's a different state.

My first month on the job and someone said there was a stray dog passing xyz casino.  I told her I lived here several years and while I have not been on every street, but I certainly had never seen a casino before .  I asked her if she knew she was calling Texas and she apologized and hung up.

My next door neighbor and hundreds of other Texans who went into Oklahoma and Arkansas when ice storms downed your limbs.

He worked three weeks straight, 10-12 hours a day and earned a shit ton of overtime from Oncor.
Texas isn't the only state who sends linemen crews to other states.

And before crowing about the OK grid....you might want to check out how many Okies are sitting in the dark right now.

Some areas had .9 inches of ice accumulation. Lot of trees went down. With that said, preparedness comes with you first. Quit relying on others. If you don’t have heat look at yourself in the mirror first.

Yep.  We had a decent amount.  Probably 3/4" at least before it started raining and slightly melting today.  Still a shit ton of ice on everything.  Some areas where it has partially melted and refrozen is well over an inch.

Your electric utility has only ten customers?
or
There are only ten customers on your street?

"The grid" is the power generation and distribution network to everyone who's connected. That there are only ten people on your line means jack squat if the same power company has thousands of other lines.

Well, some providers in Texas have zero outages.
If you look at the Oklahoma grid there are over 500 currently without power in just Owasso as of 4pm.

the Cold Weather stuns the Lizard People and thus they must be in some sort of Hibernation mode until the weather warms up again.

Now if you said it was Chupacabra's that were eating the repairmen sent out - they might bite!

That.   It's not Generation, but Transmission due to heavy ice weighted tree limbs falling onto power lines.

Trees all over Central Texas have dropped limbs into streets, on top of cars, and those by power poles into transmission lines.

A long time ago our middle school sent out paperwork/stationary with the wrong number on it.  It was my Grandpa's phone number and he got his fill pretty quick of the same nasty people on the phone when he tried to correct them.

So he started telling them wild stories...

School is closed for the week.
He doesn't care if little Johnny is sick, he will be expelled if he doesnt show up.
Their kids were caught smoking /using drugs.

Etc etc until the school updated the stationary and updated the parents.

Awesome.
Back in the mid '80's I started getting calls on my home phone from people wanting Sears appliance repair. Seems Sears added a phone# specifically for appliance repairs and guess what, they would transpose the last two digits.
My roommate would just tell them "wrong number" and hang up. I got tired of that and started offering advice and making appointments.

Kinda how I handle the Chinese telemarketers wanting to buy my house now.

Now that things are thawing we’re starting to see more trees breaking. Saw a live oak spilt in two in my parking lot and land directly on the internet/phone hub. We were without internet for two days (unrelated). Made me realize how impossible it is to conduct modern business without it.

Even if everything is in stock and the guys show up to work, you can’t create invoices, receive payments, send invoices, perform any banking, My scheduling, phones, email, and text platforms are all web-based.

At least I got my showroom redesigned and cleaned

Dude, I used to work at a company and did basically technical support. One night (I worked nights), we got a guy calling who was apparently trying to reach a Holiday Inn Express, but kept reaching us. He went through my whole team (only about 4 of us that night) and was pissed. I told him that someone on the hotel's end must have inadvertently forwarded their number to us and there was absolutely nothing we could do about it.

Hey @RePp , you know why Texas doesn't slide into the gulf of Mexico? Because Oklahoma sucks!

Seriously. So we have a few power outages because of fallen trees. That shit happens in Maine too. Our grid is fine and will get better over the next few years as we modernize. During the Xmas cold snap everything was fine here too. Ice is a bitch and we are dealing with the fallout.

I'm about 35 miles outside of Austin and we've been without power for 2 days. I have several large oak trees in my yard that lost most of their limbs due to ice. One 3-ft diameter oak snapped off about 15 ft above the ground. That was quite a sound hearing that oak crack when it broke. Cell service is almost non-existent with all the power outages.
