I thought this was going to be about the new hires (and some old hands) that add ten knots to the approach speed “for safety”. On top of the ten knots they already added for half the wind and all the gusts, and in case their landing weight is a little off, and etc, etc.
And then they wonder why they float 1500’ and have to use max braking and reverse and throw the book numbers out the window.

Lots of old airplane isms that were good in certain old four engine prop planes don’t necessarily transfer to new planes. It’s important to understand why the technique is used, not just how. There are instances where it’s fine, legal, and preferred to fly fast up to near threshold. But it won’t work in new jets.
I much prefer the old four engine prop stuff because of the differences. There are a lot of negative transfer between jets and old large aircraft. Unfortunately, new jets pay better than flying dinosaurs.
