Win 2 of the 5 and it then leaves Michigan with a shot at the playoffs, but with it largely out of their hands as it'd be up to (a) the rest of the CFP hopeful field to not win as much, and (b) the teams that Michigan beat to do their part and win some additional games and boost their standing as a quality win for Michigan. I'd also note timing is huge too, as three loses in the last three big games is going to leave a worse taste on the CFP Committee's mouth than should they drop one to Iowa or Penn State but then beat Oregon on the road in mid-November, for example. Now again, Oregon certainly looked a lot more vulnerable than they did seventy-two hours ago, though an away game at Autzen is nothing to scoff at. Right now, I'd tentatively move Michigan back to 9-3. In short, we are certainly back from a standpoint that it looks like this team will be competitive and able to go toe-to-toe with some significant programs, but again, still need to see the offense actually develop a bit more before the Playoffs are truly realistic. Let's see if they can do better than the 51-0 drubbing OU gave them. Supposed to be rainy. I’m thinking Michigan wins 34-0. |

The exact nature of Leavitt's injury is unclear. He completed last week's win over Louisiana Tech and spoke to reporters afterward without appearing to be in pain. LSU coach Lane Kiffin did not mention that Leavitt was dealing with any injuries during a Monday news conference. Considering the intensity of the rivalry, there is a chance the surprise doubtful listing could involve some midweek gamesmanship. The SEC's availability report policy defines a doubtful designation as "unlikely to play due to significant concerns" and describes it as a player having a "25% chance to play." The conference's reporting policy states acts of gamesmanship "intended to hide a student-athlete's true participation status for competitive or strategic reasons" are prohibited, as is conduct that could reasonably be construed as "misleading." Penalties for inaccurate or late reports range from $25,000 to $100,000 for football and can include "accountability measures" for head coaches. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has discretion to administer penalties as appropriate based on the circumstances. Linebacker TJ Dottery, who leads the team in tackles, was listed as questionable. The point spread went from LSU -3 to as low as -1 after the injury report was released. The line had settled back as LSU -2.5 as of Thursday morning. Leavitt, widely regarded as the top transfer quarterback this past offseason, was a two-year starter and former Big 12 Freshman of the Year at Arizona State before joining LSU following Kiffin's hiring. Leavitt had a strong debut in which he accounted for three touchdowns (one passing, two rushing) and no turnovers in a blowout win over Clemson. But Leavitt struggled to take care of the football against Louisiana Tech. LSU won 45-14, but Leavitt threw three interceptions. He was 25-of-38 passing for 344 yards and one touchdown and rushed for three scores. Husan Longstreet, a freshman, and Landen Clark, a sophomore, are Leavitt's primary backups.
