I think it was a storyline in the Heroes TV show where a main character (Hiro) could slow down or even freeze time, but it had no effect on a woman who's power was super speed.

If these types of powers were real, which would you want? Would there be enough difference for it to matter?

Slow time. Super speed would have super medical problems.

Slow or freeze time.

Obviously,  I would pick slowing down time, as Super Speed would involve cardio.

Super speed would be more useful, I think.  Either choice would likely be influenced by the ability or lack thereof to bring others with you.

If you can slow or freeze time, you then become, by definition, superspeed.

Same same.

I'm not sure that it would be.  I guess it depends on the assumptions that are made.

Let's use traveling 50 miles on a highway for an example.  With superspeed, we can run that in 2 seconds.  If you can slow time, you can still pick your way through all of the traffic, but your relative time will be however long it takes you to run 50 miles under normal conditions.  For everyone affected by the time slowdown, it would look like it only took you 2 seconds.  Additionally, while time is slowed and you're having to bang out 50 miles, are you aging normally?  When you stop slowing down time, are you now however long it took to run 50 miles older than when you started the time freeze?

I'll keep super speed.

Stuff could get funky by slowing time to approaching 0. Any minor impact, even a strand of hair hitting something would have immeasurable impulse energy (think nuclear bomb).  Then things would get super weird with light. Since light would be frozen, you wouldn’t be able to see anything unless your were physically driving the photons into your eyes, and even then it probably wouldn’t work. The world would be black and silent and the moment you interacted at all with matter, you would be causing atomic fusion.

Edit: also you wouldn’t be able to move since you would have to displace air to get anywhere and it couldn’t flow around you. You would instantly ignite the air from massive compression.

The real Science Forum is  that way.

Science is bullshit.

I learned that in religion threads in GD .

Likewise super speed would be all but useless unless you had other superpowers to go with it. Sure, running at super-sonic speeds sounds good, until you pass out when you turn a corner. Or accidentally trip and rip your face off on the ground. Or take a corner too quick and rip off your hand on the building. You'd need a special suit just like pilots to keep blood flowing. Not to mention the sonic boom caused by your passing. Or the fact that you can't breath and need to wear an oxygen mask. (Stand in a wind tunnel and try to breath)
