I'm looking for a game that can be played by a large group 10-20 ppl. Everyone plays compititively against each other, so not a team game. Can be board games, card games, video games etc... Could be one round or tournament style, but not take more than an hour at most. No overcomplicated rules like dungeons and dragons. There needs to be one winner at the end of the game

Outdoors?  Indoors?

It's NERF or nothin!

If you want a fun and energetic game, get a bunch of boffer swords and play kill your killer. Also works with nerf guns, or simple tag.

Rules; you get hit in the limb, you can't use the limb. 3 limbs or a body hit and you're out. No head or nut shots. If the person who tags you out is tagged out, you are back in. Game goes to last man standing.

If alcohol is to be involved there's always Zoom, Schwartz, Profigliano.  We used to have bouts in the dorms and it can be fun as things loosen up.

Scrabble has overcomplicated rules, far worse than dungeons and dragons.

NBA jam TE on the genesis.

Get multiple genesis consoles.  Get the four player plugin thing.   Or just emulate it.

There's three buttons so should be pretty easy to figure out..

spin the bottle

all kidding aside, we play 99 when we get together with family.

everyone starts with 3 of something.  We normally use $.25, but ymmv
need only a deck of cards but can be played with 2 decks

Special cards:
4 - pass your turn
9 - reverse game play
10 - minus 10 off number count
3 - 99, no matter what the number count is at the time of your turn, playing a 3 will automatically jump to 99

Aces play low, increment by 1
Face cards play 10
All other cards, besides special cards, play at face value

Goal is to outlast everyone else and win the pot.

How to play:
* start by dealing 3 cards to every player
* play starts right of the dealer
* each player lays down any card (special or not) and verbally calls out the number
** ie if the number to me is 15 and I lay down a face card, I say 25.  if the number to me is 98, and I lay down a 10, I would say 88.
* the goal is to not go over 99, if you do you ante 1 of your something (ie $.25, $1 etc)
* once someone goes out, the round is over and the deal is moved to the right.

it's really fun to play and once everyone gets the hang of it, can fo really fast!  So fast, that if everyone at the table isn't paying attention you can (sometimes) sneak in a card over 99 none the wiser.

99, but make a tournament of it.  Give each person three quarters or three one dollar bills.  One dollar/quarter entry fee per round.  Winner gets the pot.
