Roth IRA or Trad Ira. 30-40 year retirement Horizon. Mid 4 figures to invest.

This portfolio will be for someone that doesn't really watch/care about  the market.

It shouldn't really include VTI due to not wanting to have all the household eggs in one basket, and shouldn't really include oil majors for same reason.
Will not be including cruise lines or air lines in this one.

Plan to start 50% all in right now, and average down on the rest, over the next month or so.

Plan
50% in a s&p index fund
10% in Clorox
10% in Kimberly Clark
5% in Gilead
5% in MMM
5% in Proctor Gamble
5% in Georgia Pacific or International Paper
5% in Verizon
5% in at&t

Thoughts?

VTI is a total US market ETF, kind of the opposite of all your eggs in one basket... I’m not sure what you mean by that.

My personal portfolio is invested in that heavily.

My thought is spouse portfolio needs to be in something a bit different. IE spread out risk.

The S&P index fund and all the stocks you named are already contained within VTI, so you’re not spreading out risk, you’re just concentrating it more heavily in those companies. Something like a total international fund would be a logical compliment to your total US market ETF if you were looking to diversify.

Mid 4 figures as in 5 grand or so? No offense but no need to overthink that amount and bother picking all of your individual stocks?  Put it in a roth, pick a target date fund, and max it every year.

You only have 5 k Many diversified funds require a minimum investment. 3k is pretty common.
