Brought 'em up and sent them down. THIS time, they counted. WTF, over? ANYway, thanks for verifying. That was much easier than doing the double box cargo exchange thing. Attached File |

Hey guys, I've been distantly following Star Citizen off and on since it was first rumored about. Never got around to outfitting a computer to get into it. Is the game to the point of playability that a casual gamer that isn't interested in or capable of system debugging can have fun and not expect to lose things due to system errors/crashes etc? Thanks |

Thanks I think so. It's still far from perfect, but most of the bugs are more of an inconvenience than anything in my experience. I don't know that I've ever had the game itself crash (I started playing right before they forced everyone over to 4.0) and server crashes are rare in my experience, which is impressive since they moved to meshes servers, so something like 600 players in each server mesh. Even the server errors typically resolve themselves, although you'll be staring at a "server error" message for a few minutes. If you have a PC that can play it, they're currently running a free fly through 9/2. The ships available range from meh to a Polaris capital ship. Among the ships available for the free fly is an RSI Zeus MkII ES, which is a pretty capable all-around ship if you just want to get in, fly around, and haul a few cargo contracts. Also, unrelated, but if anyone is going to take the free Polaris and free (or owned) Vulture out for a long-ish term salvage run, be aware... You have to enter the Polaris hangar at a nose-down angle, and theres a spot in the hangar floor the salvage arms can clip into followed by a lot of explosions. I'm still not sure how I survived and also managed to recover the RMC I'd scraped out of the vulture, which was rolling at around 200rpm the entire time

Is the game to the point of playability that a casual gamer that isn't interested in or capable of system debugging can have fun and not expect to lose things due to system errors/crashes etc? Thanks Server errors are a thing, depending on population, and the inventory system struggles to cope if you've got too much stuff. Looting enemies sometimes takes 4 or 6 tries by the time the gear you're steali... salvaging decides to stay in your pack and not jump back onto the bad guy because reasons. Certain ships have known bugs that'll kill your session as surely as an explosiong, and the griefers, cheaters, and murder hobos are still a force, although somewhat reduced after a recent wave of ban hammers. All that being said, somebody with minimal computer savvy can still play and enjoy the game. I've had sessions go hours without a hitch to go along with the ones that bugged out every 5 minutes or so. I've had sessions where I moved cargo like a chad without a single hiccup, and nights where I couldn't get a crate down an elevator to save my life. In the end, if you go into it with the understanding that, despite what CIG likes to yodel from the rooftops, it's still an alpha (when it works, it's early access. When it's broke, it's alpha, just ask them) Stuff is still being tested/developed. It doesn't always work, and when it does, it doesn't always achieve what they want so they change it (frequently to something that doesn't work, which is frustrating in its own right) You'll lose stuff, hours of your time will be stolen from you, you'll be ganked for no reason other than spiteful mutants being spiteful mutants. But you'll also be able to play a number of different game loops that do more or less work. Whether it's worth it is totally up to you. Current minimum buyin is a whole $40, and you can work your way up to multicrew ships without spending another nickel. I've got one account that started out with a mustang alpha and nothing else. That guy is now running around in a 3.5 million credit raft slinging cargo, and is already 2 million along on his way to an 8 million credit Constellation (one of which I've already lost during a patch). |

I tried taking the free Polaris out, but the best I could do was wander around while it was docked. Seraphim ATC was treating me like a bum trying to borrow money, and eventually, it autostored the ship and booted me to the docking lobby. That's when I called it a night. Saw several Asgards running cargo because 180scu cargo capacity. |

Saw several Asgards running cargo because 180scu cargo capacity. I'm genuinely curious if the crashes and bugs are location/activity dependent or just luck of the draw (elevator issues from the event notwithstanding). Literally about 95% of my play time is spent running cargo contracts between Orison and Seraphim or salvaging panels in the Aaron Halo or around the Lagrange points, so I'm rarely around a large number of other players aside from in-station. The only bug I've encountered in 4.3 was actually Tuesday night, when most of my inventory failed to show up while restocking on food/Cruz at Seraphim. Simply backing out to the menu and loading back into the same shard fixed that. Well, aside from instanced hangar freight elevators acting up when someone else enters their hangar. I will admit that I play a lot of very rough games (frequently from me modding games to the verge of breaking them) and buggy early access titles, so I have a lot of patience for issues and can sometimes go into problem-solving/workaround mode without it even really registering that I'm dealing with a bug ![]() I did notice the server performance wasn't wonderful at Cloudview Center in Orison last night and I was running at 16-19fps until I went back to August Dunlow. I'd chalk the ATC thing up to the everyone wanting to test out the Polaris and the stations being hit with a ton of extra large hangar and dock requests constantly. I know there were about five Polarises (Polari?) at Orison not including the one I was flying in last night. |

One crash to power off was on the tram in Lorville. Another was on Abberdeen, running for one of the outbuildings. I can't remember where I was when the monitor powered down, but I think I may have been in my Raft outside of Everus. I'm also having draw in issues I haven't seen since I got rid of my old 8 gig video card. |

I haven't experienced it, but I've seen videos of people coming out of QT and having an asteroid spawn right next to their ship after a few seconds. I did run into a mildly inconvenient bug last night. I loaded in at New Babbage, went down to NBIS, called up the Polaris from the ASOP terminal so I had access to the XL hangar. I took the elevator to the hangar, and no Polaris. ASOP shows it's on the pad. No biggie, I'll just call up the Vulture, which should store the Polaris, then I'll call it back up. My Vulture comes up, I move it off the pad, go to call up the Polaris, and it shows as "status unknown", so I have to claim it. Instead of waiting for even the expedited reclaim timer of 18m and change I just went ahead and took the vulture out solo. Not the biggest of inconveniences (although it meant I had to return home with my max of 36scu),but yeah, definitely a bug. |

Thank's y'all Sounds like im better off sitting on the sidelines a bit longer. Losing ships and progress due to bugs/crashes and having to iterate a sequence to get some task to work correctly are not things I'd handle well right now. I still enjoy MechWarrior Online enough to address my gaming fix needs Ill continue to follow along |

Prior to 4.3, I haven't had any draw in problems other than the stations taking half a second or so to pop in after finishing a quantum jump to them. It's funny you mention this because I logged out in New Babbage vs my home in Orison Wednesday night, so I had to navigate the city to get to my hangar. After getting off the shuttle at the NBIS stop, one of the elevators to take you up to the spaceport was doing that "empty void" thing. That's the first time I've seen that happen since 4.0. I was also running at 6-15fps in the hangar... Sure enough, I call ATC to get out of my hangar, take off, and there's six ship markers overhead. I didn't scan them, but I guarantee they were all Polarises. Flying a Polaris is genuinely a cool experience (and I genuinely wouldn't mind piloting one for an org), but I'm starting to think them being on the free fly list was a mistake. |
|
I took the free fly Polaris out for a spin, realized the pilot has zero weapons under his control, and stored it. Also, I see the Zeus ES made it to the next tier. Why? I'm struggling to come up with a reason to own one, let alone a reason it should be so popular. It's not a good freighter, it's not a good combat ship, exploration isn't really in the game yet... What, really, is it good for? |

I know the Polaris is going to win overall, but I was holding out for the slim chance of getting a Vulture paint job. In an unrelated note, I can't believe how much an $11 3d printed shim changed how much my X52 stick feels. Before it was incredibly loose with no real resistance and the centering spring really only had enough weight to center the stick back up, fine control (like when salvaging) was an absolute PITA. After adding a shim to basically pre-tension the spring, the stick has real weight to it and feels like a much more expensive stick. Now if I can just figure out how to get SC to not act clunky/notchy with the throttle (which works smoothly in DCS, so it's not the throttle itself) |

Gotta say, the Asgard is growing on me. Last night I was doing event runs, and I loaded a small, medium, AND large inside all at once. I probably could have gotten 15-20 scu more if I'd worked at it. Of course, it's still a $350 cash money ship, and the growth isn't that severe. |

I bought the Vulture (aUEC, not real money) thinking salvage would be a similar loop, and that I would find something better to do once I didn't need money.... But salvage is genuinely a fun game loop to run and I don't see me not doing it. Panels in the Aaron Halo are nice and zen, but then you also have the excitement of hitting up player ships in very public areas where you could be attacked at any moment. Hell, yesterday I was scraping a Polaris hull (not the same one in the pic) and had gone down to the cargo area to move boxes when I heard gunfire. I climbed the ladder, pulled my P4AR out and crept up on the cockpit, and sure enough, someone was EVA-ing and trying to blast my Vulture door open. Stuff like that keeps the game fun

The only remaining large ship to purchase for me to fill that last gap will be the Galaxy for base building and general purpose stuff. I still can't believe they tried to go back on it being a base building ship after it being touted as one of the biggest selling points. Hopefully they learned their lesson about trying to do a sleight of hand like that to push people to buy ANOTHER/DIFFERENT ship in addition to the ones they already have. |

Been playing on Cache for a couple of days, and SC seems to be running fine with a few exceptions. Notably, when trying to exit out of a ship claim in the ASOP terminal, it launches Firefox and takes me to the browser. Not sure what that's all about. Also, looks like the protect the site missions are still screwed. |

I already ran into my first 4.4 glitch about five hours after CIG released it to live yesterday. I decided I'd do a little mining in my Golem and wanted to extend the trip a bit, so I loaded four Drake ore pods into the nose of my C2 and loaded the Golem into the rear. I took everything out to the Aaron Halo and cut the C2's engines, but left the power on for shields and lights, then pulled the Golem out and EVA'd to close the C2's rear ramp to secure it just in the insanely remote chance someone else were to stumble upon it. I set off mining and spun retrograde at around 750m separation to take one last look to verify the ship marker and serial number showed up for me. Fifteen minutes later, I realize I've been facing almost every direction looking for good asteroids and haven't seen the ship marker since I set off. After another 10 minutes or so I get suspicious and start looking for it, pinging left and right just in case my blue serial & marker disappeared. Then I noticed it. 31.1Gm away. On Microtech. I QT to Microtech and track it down, and the marker (no ship, just the blue personal ship marker) is moving along the surface at what I estimated to be around 300m/s. I guess I'll see if I can reproduce it tonight to see if it's a genuine glitch or a one-off event. I know the servers were getting hammered yesterday, so I guess it could have been some sort of crazy desync. |
| I was super interested in this back in the day having spent a lot of time in EVE. Just looked it up and holy shit, 900 million and 13 years going on 14 and still in alpha. Some of us are going to be dead before the full release. I have to say I admire you guys who have stuck with it though. |

Only issue I've had in 4.4 so far (y'know, other than the inventory STILL not working correctly) was getting out of the hangar elevator at August Dunlow and stepping straight into a firefight. 7+ players in starting gear, using C54s shooting nonstop. |

Only issue I've had in 4.4 so far (y'know, other than the inventory STILL not working correctly) was getting out of the hangar elevator at August Dunlow and stepping straight into a firefight. 7+ players in starting gear, using C54s shooting nonstop. I don't think I've fallen out of my own ship in QT (aside from the one time I got a little to close to the edge of my C1's ramp while staring into the void on a long jump), but I know the "rescue ship/recover cargo" missions from 4.2 or whatever would boot you out of the ship if you tried to just take the whole ship with you to unload it at a safe location. Not that I tried that or anything ![]() I think that's the first time I've had a ship disappear on me since they fixed the ship cleanup where it'd despawn your ship if you got like 50m away from it. It honestly may have been the server glitching out from being overloaded. When I returned to my persistent hangar last night, the ship marker for the Golem I left in my hangar Wednesday night was still there. And yeah, ADSP was a mess last night. When I got there, there were three NPCs blasting away at each other. When I had my share of the expo and left, there were four NPCs in a firefight and a pile of what I assume were 7-8 dead players off to the side. |

History indicates that Conservative Americans only have three speeds: silence, peaceful protest rallies, and Total Industrialized Warfare. They excel at the latter.

Far from perfect, but I've had more fun with it than a ton of games that fully released. |

No idea on the piles of bodies, I didn't stick around long enough to check them out. When I first showed up a fully geared player ahead of me pulled out a primary before putting it away. I guess going to the expo was preferable to getting a crimestat

Yeah, it's still in alpha after all these years, and that discussion is its own entire thing. But the game as-is is definitely playable and fun as long as you're the type of person who won't let the occasional glitch ruin your day. I like to lean into the glitches and see if I can find a reason it should amuse me. Like chasing a ship marker with no corresponding ship for a good 100km across Microtech

They were over past Elliot's by the convenience store near the stairs when I was there. They may have been players, but they were moving like NPCs when I watched and were missing most shots. I guess it always could have been a player vs NPCs that I saw though. At any rate. If you find yourself at a station without a docking port in a Polaris, it turns out they do fit on the pro pads. Attached File Attached File And I may have to buy the RSI Salvation. It turns out a C2 can fit a Salvation, ATLS Geo, Roc, and Golem along with four extra Drake ore pods, two Roc bags, and a 2scu stor*all for gems from the Geo, with what I'm estimating to be room for around 96scu of RMC on board as well (while still being able to fly the Golem in and out). That's a solo industrial player's dream right there. Although the Salvation is a pain to offload in zero G, the boxes tend to send the ship into a slow spin as they come off the grid. August Dunlow is still a complete shit-show. Bodies everywhere, I had a helmet box fly past me as I was leaving the elevator room. Tracers flying through the lobby. What I don't get is I DO NOT remember this at Invictus this past year. I don't think I've seen it this bad at the other free fly events as well. Is this an IAE thing? An Orison thing? I just started playing back in January so I have no frame of reference Eta: I had to jump to an AUS server because the US one I was in was dying and inventory wouldn't even come up. Piles of bodies at August Dunlow even in the normally peaceful AUS servers. |

That'll be fun to look forward to every free fly for the foreseeable future. I was wondering how so many people had guns out in Orison. I knew there were exploits to do it, but thought it was odd there were so many people doing it at the same time at the same place. I went with the Intrepid as my starter and added a 3-paint pack and had just under $100 in it. Warbond IAE comes with the ship, one paint, the gear set, and 40k UEC as well, for $68. Eta: the Intrepid package may actually push a friend of mine over the edge and get him to finally buy a game package. Hell, I told him if he bought the Salvation I'd throw him a few million UEC to get a second ship if he wanted to do something other than salvage

Hopefully they learned their lesson about trying to do a sleight of hand like that to push people to buy ANOTHER/DIFFERENT ship in addition to the ones they already have.
