Quoted: Damn. Expected HP? I first built this motor almost 20 years ago. This is a freshening up. I’ve never dyno’d it, but based on vehicle weight and trap speed it’s somewhere north of 440 horsepower. In a lightweight little platform it’s pretty sporty for a street car. All throttle, no boost or spray. Just lots of rpms

Cylinder heads sealed and torqued. I had to get creative with the head gaskets... I wasn’t going to wait five weeks for Cometic to make something custom. So I modified off-the-shelf MLS gaskets Attached File |

Quoted: Attack of the dremel? Since you mentioned it... ![]() Electrolysis had eaten away at a few of the coolant passages, so my machinist welded them up and surfaced the heads. One of the problems I ran into was that the steam holes no longer intersected with those passages due to the welds, so I had to re-cut them. Another steam hole issue was due to the fact that this is a pre-1972 block with (obviously) aftermarket heads. So I drilled some new holes to remedy it. Little hiccups like this are to be expected. No big deal, really. |

My sincere thanks and appreciation for my son (he’s in the first pic). He did much of the heavy lifting. Granted, his lumbar spine IS thirty years younger than mine ![]() Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Quoted: Awesome!!! Very nice build/project. Great father son bonding. ![]() Cant wait for the video(s) It’s been really cool teaching a young millennial about pushrod engines, carburetors, etc ![]() I got the headers and clutch linkage, crossmember, and swaybar back in it yesterday. And a bunch of other piddly little ‘gotta do’ things. The rest of the exhaust will go back in today. Fuel tank is empty so I’ll have to go fill a jerry can. It’ll probably be ready to light either today or tomorrow, but I’m going to wait until the weekend so my son can be a part of doing that My boy is quite the gifted photog. I’ll have him bring his video equipment and I’ll post some vids here |

Gonna be real hard to be patient until Saturday to light this candle. Attached File |

Radiator and hoses back in it, put some fuel in the tank and purged the lines up to the carb. Primed the oiling system, made about 58psi cold with a cordless drill (thick break-in oil). Two. More. Days. Shit, sometimes patience sucks Attached File |

Quoted: This will have to do until I get the video https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/277622/6529C8CC-6EFB-4915-8BAD-9CCF761891B3_jpe-1692315.JPG |

It all came together fairly quick. This is from 30 October. Note the crank in the background and compression rings squared in each bore (I’m OCD about that kind of stuff... I size individual rings to individual bores )Attached File |

Awesome OP! GM type here but the distributor on the rear of the engine GM style absolutely sucks, this from someone who learned by adjusting points with feeler gages (matchbook cover in a pinch) and setting timing with a 12 v light bulb back over 50 years ago........... |

Quoted: Thanks fellas ![]() It's been a LOT of hard work to accomplish this. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud of it. Nasty motor, fun car to drive. Traction challenged for sure ![]() Now you can send me a bunch of racing and burnout videos |
