Perhaps I should try some fiction. My choices tend to get me riled up.  Recently finished “Sword and Scimitar” and “The Two Swords of Christ” by Raymond Ibrahim. Great historical telling of the Crusades and Islam conquest. Can’t recall ever learning about that slave trade in school. Now reading the second of Andrew Torba’s Christian Nationalist books. I didn’t fully appreciate why he founded Gab. Wish there were more men like him. Both authors are great advocates for Christendom. |

Finished TJIC's Red State Mars, very good adventure. They are taking pre-orders now for the prequel Red State Earth, which is set in the time leading up to Mars settlement. Attached File |

I don't remember Red Planet and haven't read the other, but I think there is enough new stuff in RSM to be interesting. US diaspora with Albion's Seed and tech tribes versus China on Mars, with 3D printing, drone, and AI influences on society 200 years from now. Can't compare to the masters yet in style, but he's getting better. |

Stephen King - The Bazaar of Bad Dreams Got this for Christmas years ago and not as much of a King fan as I used to be, but he still writes cool short stories. So far not bad. The Reluctant King - L Sprage De Camp An omnibus of a few of his books. 60's fantasy with a touch of humor. |

Cleansing my palate now with American Paladin by Larry Correia. Previously I had tried these two, I think they came from the free Kindle book lists put together on Preppersales. You get what you pay for. I gave myself permission to not finish a book I wasn't enjoying. got about 1/4 through The Very Last War by WH Hawthorne. Red meat fantasy for conservatives maybe, a very conservative and charismatic man's man wins the Presidency as a 3rd party! But the new golden age is threatened by an unlikely global conspiracy. Maybe it would have worked out, but the writing is just too clunky and disjointed. Did finish Seasons: A Year in the Apocalypse by EA Lake. Probably should have dropped it too, but did want to see how terribly it would end. And unfortunately they did live, but only through the kindness of their neighbors saving them from starvation and freezing to death. This was not the first unlikely dues ex machina. Might have been a good story in here, 22 years after some kind of EMP-like disaster and subsequent disease and disorder. Lady tryin go keep her family together as a very unskilled sharecropper for a local big man. Husband and daughter run off, probably to save themselves from this extremely useless, delusional, and whiny woman. She sells her son as an indentured servant to get food. She has an obligatory minority single woman housemate who is even more annoying, and potentially a pedo. Anyways, I have given this more words than it deserves. |

Enjoying the hell out of Larry Correia's American Paladin. Trying to get done in time for early October release of Neal Stephenson's latest D: Heavy Water. He's not an insta-buy hardback for me, but I've got Kindle credits so it's basically free. Also the 2nd book in James S. A. Corey's new series is also on the list to do. |

Couldn’t get into it. I reread Anathem instead, so it’s not that I don’t like Stephenson. I’m rereading the Lord of the Rings. I originally read them in high school. At that time, I found them slow and boring. However, I knew they were important, so I pushed through to the end. Now, I really enjoy them and blasted through the Fellowship in a week. |

But a decent historical novel, he has a real eye for subcultures (which is what I liked about Termination Shock). The best part was Patton, who I hope shows up more in the future books. I'll definitely read D but not get a printed version. Reading Anathem is always in order, although my favorite recent one is Seveneves. |
