A refurbished unit thats been converted to work on a normal phone line. I'm gonna hook it to a VoIP adapter and put it in my game room (IE the basement). Used and messed with alot of payphones in the 90s.
And yes I do have experience setting up VoIP networks. Update here: https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/So-I-just-bought-a-payphone/5-2510062/?page=2#i96485935 ETA Pics |

My cousin in NYC decades ago had a payphone in her apartment. It would work even without coins being put in, but, she said, if you put money in it every time you use it, then when it's time to pay the phone bill the money is already there.
I don't expect I'd spend much time standing at a phone that's stuck to a wall, even in my own house. Can you at least set it up for bluetooth? |

I had a tenant back in the 80’s who stole a bunch of pay phones. When the police executed the search warrant they found them in the attic. If I recall Ma Bell valued the phones at $1,700 a piece and the guy went away to TDC for a long time as he had like 20 something of them in his possession.

That’s awesome. I’ve been tempted to put one up near my kitchen island.
It’s weird to think of how things were so different when they were in use. When someone left their house, they were gone; they could be anywhere. There wasn’t any “iOS/Google maps says I’ll be there at 7:03 PM.” It was, “I’ll see you in an hour or so.” When you were out and about, you’d maybe make a call that you’d be home late, you couldn’t send a text message to your family. There wasn’t that constant feed of information. You didn’t have a pocket telescreen pinging multiple cellphone towers incessantly. |

Out cruising archer avenue in chicago on a saturday night, pager goes off, could be that girl you gave your number to, gotta' find a pay phone FAST

OP can only make calls when he has proper change like Chevy Chase in Funny Farm

Years ago a guy I went to college with got big into pay phones. He had several hundred. Made a good living at it especially when callers used telephone credit cards.

I think that'd be pretty cool.
I'd consider making a wooden framed, glass booth for it with a seat. Place it in the middle of a wall, preferably the longest blank wall you have. Have remarkable artwork on either side of it. If the wife complains, get rid of her. |

My father bought one from a local scrap yard as a novelty, the coin box had not been emptied and had more money in it than he paid for the phone.

I've put in the order. I'll post pics when it comes.
Got it from here if anyone is interested: https://www.payphone.com/Personal-Pay-Phone.html Some of you might be interested in the payphone converted to a gun safe: https://www.payphone.com/Payphone-Gun-Safe.html To increase the nostalgia value I also ordered this for it |

Quoted: Let us know how your 1-900 sex addict line turns out.... View Quote I've read 1-900 numbers aren't a thing anymore. In my early teens friends and I put together lists of 900 and 800 numbers and what they were for. No reason why. We thought it was hilarious to call 1-800-FUCKERS and listen to the "sexy" voice on the other end explain how to talk to hot women. We didn't have the internet quite yet |

I still remember my high school girlfriends phone number (well, her parents number, since it was a home phone). I think the only reason I know my wife's is because it's our grocery store club number. |

Now you need a phone booth, black rimmed glasses, blue tights, and red cape.

The address, friends' addresses, phone number, friends' phone numbers, even the combination to the storage shed out back where we kept our bikes. All still in the noggin. This summer, I met and had dinner with a friend I hadn't seen in over 20 years, who lived a block away. It was all 'member berries, all the time. |

The number of Arfcommers who should be encouraged to wear tights can possibly be counted on one hand. This thread has much potential for awesomeness. But, it now also has the potential for terrible regret. |

I saw the remnants of a payphone booth the other day outside of a convenience store. I had to do a double take on that one.
