I really want to build an Aero M5 rifle. With everything out of stock, and the current political situation, will I be able to in some time? Or did the ship sail?

I would say you're SOL to build one. Since there really isn't any established standards and you're more or less at the mercy of getting your parts from one company, and if that company is having stock problems right now, I would say you've missed your chance. If you just want to BUY one then you could probably, without too much trouble but it will cost you.

I beg to differ. I just finished up my build about 20 min ago. I was able to source everything from primary arms except for the lower that was local and the BCG. I was lucky to get that from a place in VA. The parts are out there you just have to look.

I started building an AeroPrecision M5 last Spring when the pandemic hit.
I was able to get everything except the handguard. It's as if everything disappeared all at once. You just have to persistently check AeroPrecision and their preferred vendors every day. Set up email alerts as well. |

CDNN has been blowing out Bushmaster and Remington AR10 parts since the Remington bankruptcy. All DPMS pattern stuff, and as of a few days ago it was all still available and pretty reasonably priced.
So not Aero, but available. |

I just slapped a 2nd one together last week using a CDNN/DPMS lower. Already had a leftover barrel/upper from the previous build. Found a bolt/carrier assy locally. Grabbed a XH Heavy rifle buffer and spring from Heavybuffers.com Sourced the A2 stock from a local buddy. Timney 4lb trigger, KAK pins, charging handle and Hogue grip came from Midway USA. Topped it off with a Vortex Diamonback 4-14x44. Nothing fancy or expensive. Just a shooter/frankengun I slapped together. Attached File |

I'm building one at the moment. Probably not the best time since parts are hard to find. But I found most. Shipping seems to be slow though...

Well it wasn't Aero but I got in on the DPMS deal at CDNN..barrel from Primary Arms... didn't have a 308 and didn't feel like I could wait to get the parts I wanted.

What’s the point? I can pull the pins on my ar, slap on my 6.5 upper and have superior performance to a .308.

I bought some tools hoping to build one in the future but I don't think I'll get to at this point. Besides, even when I was making oil and gas money, ammo was $$$. I did build a .300blk but couldn't afford a case of qammo so that's just sort of sitting there too. No way can I afford a case now, and it if it ever comes back down to somwhat reasonable prices, ARs might be on some ban list at that point.

I’m in a similar position, OP.
I recently decided that I’d like to build an M5, unfortunately I can’t justify what it would cost to do so right now. I’ve considered buying the receivers and BCG to put away, but I’m not sure there’s any point in having only part of it. |

I’ve read a bunch of bad reviews about them, but rolled the dice on a DPMS .308 BCG and I received it with no issues. It went into this: Attached File DPMS lower-$100 Ballistic Advantage barrel-$80 (new, pawn shop) Aero stripped upper-$101 Aero Atlas S-1 rail-$198 w/ coupon DPMS BCG-$125 B5 stock-$40ish Aero scope mount-$90 Primary Arms 1-8x-$3?? MBT-$80 LPK, buffer tube-parts bin Buffer and spring-$30 All bought from October on last year, but I did spend a lot of time finding what I wanted for a price I was comfortable paying. |

View Quote I’m sure someone, somewhere, there’s an Aero M5 receiver set for sale. If you want to build one then pony up now before it’s too late. Some of us lived through the AWB. The next one won’t sunset...and your only saving grace may be true fact that there’s so many AR’s in this country right now that SCOTUS might (wouldn’t hold my breath) rule such a ban unconstitutional. |

Finished this one up not too long ago. Not sure why I built it, though. Sort of thinking about trying to sell it.

Aero had blemished lowers in stock a couple of weeks and uppers the next week.
That’s a long way from a complete gun but parts are still available, you just need to look for them. |

I just sold one a month ago, complete aero M5 rifle with 20" barreled upper.

I, too, pondered this. Was pondering since last year once everything turned to shit. But my situation wouldnt allow me to spend the money even if I could.
My conclusion: If you/we're lucky. |

In my opinion you’re not missing much if you don’t go with Aero M5. I finished a build about 1 1/2 years ago and to be honest the fit between the upper and lower was not very satisfactory for me. Has a gap between the two halves you can damn near read a newspaper through. It works, just not up to the quality fit and finish I was expecting.

View Quote https://www.gunbroker.com/item/889907819 https://www.gunbroker.com/item/889262999 There’s literally dozens of them on GB. They’re selling for (search completed auctions) for under $300. If that’s not affordable right now to at least have the lower on hand, then no...it’s quite possible you aren’t going to have a chance to build one. |
