I just saw a story where a “mother” had her EBT card wiped out for the month of November and it will not be reloaded until the first of December. She says there was $4100 on the card. How?
How does someone get that much money on an EBT card every month? As this story just broke, I can only hazard a guess that she had much more than that on the card on the 1st of November. Are these cards being used for mortgages, car payments, incidentals and food? Is this why our workforce participation is utterly in the toilet? Is this why we cannot get people to work and our national debt is irreconcilable? I need an edumacation on how this system is gamed since I am paying for it with checks to Uncle Sugar. $4,100 stolen from mother’s EBT card ahead of Thanksgiving |

Heard from a person that knows such things. A barber shop will sell 'snack crackers' for $50, same for nail salons. Nobody is going to check what amount someone will spend on something. That is a loophole that is exploited quite often.

Can you accumulate money on these government slush fund accounts?
|

In for tips. As a soon to be unemployed FSA, I need some learning on scamming the system.

You can carry over funds for up to a year, but card requires monthly use, even if just a dollar.
Lots of families save ebt all year to have one big hoopla on holiday season. |

The food stamps can only legally be used for food but as others have said it’s easy enough to get around that. Scan a bar code taped to the counter for enough bread or milk to equal the booze or smokes you want to buy. Another scam small corner shop owners will go shopping with an EBT card holder and pay them .50 cents on the dollar cash for items they buy at Costco or Sam’s that they can then sell at their corner store. I’ve seen this at Sam’s club especially for cases of drinks and small bags of chips.
In my experience the people living full time on welfare programs are single mothers with multiple kids getting ssdi for their kids “disabilities” and food stamps and Medicare and reduced section 8 housing. Then you work cash jobs under the table. Selling dope, cutting/braiding hail, doing nails, part time waiting tables at banquets, etc. |
|
In the past some have gamed the foster care system for bennies. When I was a kid working at a grocery store I recall those being the ones I saw over $1000. Not saying that all of those were "gaming" it, but they made it known because the value always popped up for cashiers as well as the balance showed on the receipt.

People come in all the time for food. We have the USDA boxes we give out plus whatever other donations from major food manufacturers. There is a scheduled giveaway weekly at several locations. Why sell your ass when orgs give out food by the truckload? You are probably right. It’s a combination of many scams taking advantage of multiple govt systems, charities, churches, etc. I’ve helped my mom at her churches food pantry. They hand out a pre packed large cardboard once a week. Has a little big of everything but mostly carbs. All the regular customers know what church or food bank is giving out what days. One of my jobs was to police up all the food left in the parking lot by the “hungry” people. Usually items that required prep beyond microwaving were left behind like bags of rice and beans. |

Years ago I had an alcoholic woman roommate. Very well educated, smart, witty, and had a great job. As stated, she was an alcoholic however, and dabbled in harder drugs. Cocaine, X, psychedelics, etc. Nothing worse than that I know of.
She quit her job making around $110k a year and got into some kind of bender with a guy she was dating. She fucking got on disability temporarily for mental distress or depression or some shit. She was getting as I recall something like $1500 a week. A WEEK. For being able to stay home and do drugs and sleep all day. I can confirm she was depressed. Barely came out of her room. Slept all day. Woke up briefly at night. She had issues. But I still can’t believe she was basically making as much money as me with a job at the time. I moved out shortly after that as she couldn’t afford the place anymore and wanted to sell the house. |

Today, I stopped at the dollar store,my wife asked me to pick up several of those tin foil pans for the turkey.
A kid was in front of me in the line. A big kid ,6 ft dredlocks ,air jordons, a commemorative pistons coat ,he had 20$ worth of tea, candy, gum and energy drinks. He paid for it with a bridge Card. (Mich EBT) I followed him out, he got into a newer dodge 300 I know this sound like I’m just retelling urban legends but this really happened ,also , he was a white kid but spoke the dialect. I’m sure that I could have found him a good job in less than an hour. Lowe’s delivery? Any moving company? I’m sure the trades need strong backs |

One of the positive and unfortunate things with the coming collapse, is this stopping. Without the taxpayer, that they will force out of employment with the coming mandates jabbs and whatever they come up with, there will be no one to fund their stuff. Yeah, they'll keep printing for awhile, but as more are pushed out, more will figure out how to survive on a parallel system that doesnt require or support such things.

I heard a report that said a family of 4 gets a total of $75,000 tax-free benefits (not just EBT) per year, if they apply for all that they qualify for.
Poverty was eradicated a long time ago...but they still gots "wants." |

What kind of Covid relief $$$ is going into these accounts? It looks like individual states can declare SNAP emergency extensions? Using what funding? The .GOV just give them all blank checks?!? My god.

When I used to work in a call center many moons ago we used to take calls to replace lost Link cards in IL. The fraud and abuse that goes on with the EBT system is sickening. Little old ladies on SS getting $16 a month and career welfare rats getting hundreds a month.
This was in 2009 and I could see the shift in demographics due to the recession. Lots of first timers who were very pleasant to deal with. The frequent fliers were always rude and entitled. |
|
She likely also received money from the P-EBT program (Pandemic EBT) which supplemented SNAP benefits for students on free and reduced lunch. In some cases, students who were in schools that served free lunch to all students through a USDA program for low-income areas received several hundred dollars each via P-EBT cards multiple times in the last few years even though they were (grossly) ineligible for SNAP.
One family I know of with students in a neighboring district received the cards during each distribution and have a combined household income of over $300k. |
