Every time I watch it, I’m hoping I find a directors cut, where either Upham grows a pair and saves his mates, or gets run over by a tank.

I know that it's a great movie but I never really got into it (Sorry).  Now, "Schindler's List" ?...I watch that like a 4yr old with a copy of "The Lion King" and a double espresso.  That freakin' movie is just so good on EVERY level.

I've been stuck on a job-site on standby for the last few days. Sitting in my truck most of the time, so I've been rewatching Band of Brothers... for  the hundredth time.

and every time the scene comes on when Upham does nothing to help Mellish I have to change the channel for a few minutes. It just freaks me out because I cannot imagine what it would be like to be in a fight for my life and realize there is nothing I can do to stop what is happening and that is being killed.

Could have been in it as an extra, was experienced doing WW2 US Airborne re-enacting at the time & had been doing so for about 5 years.
Knew the first guy shot when the ramp drops on the opening scenes - got some funny looks when we cheered for him (from the rest of the cinema audience) - knew a lot of the other guys in it as extras; some went on to be extras in BoB too.
IF the original location for the beach had been given the green light it would have been filmed a ten minute drive from there I lived at the time - and at least THEN someone on set would have had a genuine/correct M1903A4 instead of the soup sandwich they rigged up
Local leather shop to me started to get real pally, asking me about M1907 slings and M6 scabbards - only found out why AFTER they'd done the order for the movie and made a pigs ear of some of it..!

This, let me know when you find that version.  Even though it is a movie I still get really frustrated with him.    I also still get a lump in my throat when Tom Hanks tell Private Ryan to "earn this" even though I know darn well it is coming.

After visiting the American Cemetery in Normandy this past summer, just the thought of kneeling at the grave of a brother in arms that fell in combat is moving.   To kneel at the grave of someone I never met was incredibly emotional.   While I certainly wasn't there that day, I hope that 75 years later, that I've "earned this."

We also walked up through the Dog Green sector of the beach that the 29th I.D. took, which is portrayed in one of the opening scenes.  I remember clearly the radio call of "Dog One is not open, I repeat, Dog One is not open"
