We just picked up a Dutchie pup (Malinois/Dutch Shepherd cross, actually) on Sunday. Her dad (Dutchie) is a working Police K9 and her mom (Malinois) is a certified Narcotics detection dog. She's 8 weeks old, and we named her "Eleven".

This one was kind of an unexpected surprise. My wife (a dog trainer by profession) was asked to go evaluate a litter and help a friend pick out a puppy. Eleven was the only girl and only brindle in the litter of six. My wife thought she was really nice, and by far the best puppy of the bunch... but her friend wanted a male. So they both ended up getting puppies!

She is named after the character from Stranger Things (My wife's favorite show), but she also happens to be the eleventh dog we've owned in the 25 years we've been together. It just fits I guess. We're calling her "El" or "Ellie" for now, we'll see which sticks.

She is going to be trained as an EDD to do some contract work, but she will also be my wife's new PSA dog if everything works out.

My spotter was a little over zealous,  and insisted on sitting on my lap while I was trying to take out a couple rockchucks.

Timiing your shots with a panting dog was ........interesting.

His favorite game....chase rocks in the creek.

Coco's first lake trip; she's 7 months old.

She watches our kids like a hawk.  She circles the outside of the pool at the house when my kids swim.  She lost her mind when they first jumped off the boat.

My daughter and her were completely exhausted at the end of the day.

This is Rio. He's a GSD/Doberman mix, and already a handful. Had him 3 weeks and he's picking up training pretty well all around, but I'm not sure I was ready for the lifestyle change. This is from the day we got him.

I'll tell you this though, I'd never had dogs like this before I got my GSD she's 1.5 years or so and I trained the hell out of her. We're not where I want for competitions but to pet dog standards she's nearly perfect.

A well trained & obedient shepherd is worth their weight in gold. Put in 1 year of hard work and 2 years of maintenance/ steady improvement and you'll have the dog of your dreams.  (3 years is when most GSDs are fully mature).

Shit if you put in that 1st year you might even get so enamored you go out and do something retarded like get a Malinois.

1st pic I took them to go train on a really hot day a couple weeks back, and of course they found some water to cool off in & I had no towels in the truck

2nd pic my wife took of my buddy Grendel, it's my favorite in the 6 months we've had him. I'm in love with this little guy, he does everything 100%. Shit even snuggling is a dangerous activity, he'll hop up in bed put his forehead on yours then flop down on your face/chest and squirm around trying to get even closer somehow . He really is the prototypical Mal, he acts & looks exactly like the AKC website description. Crazy on, absolutely adores his "pack", gets his feelings hurt if I'm too hard on him, learns things extremely quickly, will do ANYTHING to get a reward. What I'm most excited about though is doing bitework with him, he will not be intimidated or pushed around, he's totally fearless. Even at two months old, playing tug with him, I got directly over him (dominant position) on accident. Most dogs, shit even alot of legit working dogs at that age would be uncomfortable back down. Him? Nah, fuck that. He gets pissed and goes berserk fighting & growling. At 6 months now, playing tug is a full contact sport and I've got the cuts, bruises & ripped clothes to prove it.

Yeah I'm learning quickly through all the forums about all the things I need to do. I wanted a good family dog that is well trained to watch over my girls when I'm on travel, I just didn't realize how much work that mean . He's making good progress. I spend about 15-30 min in training each day and he's nearly house broken after 2.5 weeks. It's gonna be a journey.

Rio is about 8 months now and enjoys the snow. He's turning out to be a great dog and he loves my little girl. They interact really well together even though he's still a pup. He even does OK with the cat, even though the cat hates him.
