I just found out about this.  One of my heroes while growing up, along with Merlin Olsen.

As a kid the Rams and RG were my favorites.

18 has always been my lucky number.

Plus he was in a couple of movies with John Wayne.

Haven't heard his name in a loooong time.  Watched him on our black and white television back then, after I turned it on and checked all the tubes in back were lit.

(By then we had an antenna outside, so I didn't have to manipulate the rabbit ears.)

Sorry to hear.  Actually got to meet him at a birthday cookout around 90 or 91 near Clyde NC.  Nice Guy.

As a small kid, we were watching 'Ironside' and my father goes: "There's Roman Gabriel".
I asked him who that was, and he said: "He's the LA Rams quarterback", and I said to myself: "Who are the LA Rams?"
I only knew the division that the Baltimore Colts played in.

He was a big dude for a quarterback like 6' 5" or so and I can remember guys hanging on him as he could/would get off passes. Dunno as I ever remember him getting sacked!

The only movie I remember seeing him was the John Wayne/Rock Hudson movie The Undefeated.
