New sensor installed ~ 1,000 miles ago.

The car is a 1981 Fiat X1/9.  The toasted O2 sensor lasted three 24 Hours of Lemons races.  We finished all three races.  The car ran best in the last race, but tends to break up and power (all of 75HP on a good day) drops off around 5,500 - 6,000 rpm.

We don't know shit about cars.  We just enjoy careening around the track, and muddle our way through sketchy repairs with the help of salvage yards, Rock Auto, the internet, the school of hard knocks, and other Lemons teams.

Unburned fuel leaving the cylinders and igniting in the exhaust... Get "hotter" spark plugs and more coil. Advance the timing a pinch. You can also lean it out a bit.
