I found a rebar bender that had 6 foot steel arms.  You could bend 3/4" like it was butter, and the shear would snip #2 rebar like it was butter.

I found a good working gas weed eater, it fell off a truck, I tried to get the truck to stop but they never looked back.
I was waiving my arms and screaming, they just had no idea what had happened.
Some lady with half her teeth missing in a car stopped and said give it to her and she would find the owner, sure you will, told her to keep driving.

A pair of handcuffs and a dildo.

Not together though.  Handcuffs in a parking lot.  Dildo laying on I94 between lanes in a traffic jam.  No, I didn’t pick it up.

$140, multiple full 5 gallon gas cans,  Craftsman ratchet and socket set in a carry case, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, ratchet straps, fire extinguisher, various 2X4 and other dimensional lumber, including plywood.  Still waiting to find a ladder, shovel, or rake.

About 10 years ago, I collected 2x5 gallon buckets worth of lead wheel weights by riding my bicycle slowly up and down the sidewalk and scanning the gutters near a big truck stop.

That's bullet casting gold.

Not quite on the side of the road but driving down Poplar Avenue in Memphis one day I passed a car going the other direction with a revolver on his roof. I found a place to turn around and apparently he did too cause here he comes back driving slowly. I flashed my lights and he looked at me. I stuck my arm out the window and pointed at the roof. I see both arms go up and he stops and gets out and waves at me. How that stayed up there is beyond me. If it had been me, it would have fallen off and been immediately scooped up by someone.

A hell of a lot.  No idea why, I live on a county road that isn't traveled much.

Ladders,  gas cans, a backpack blower, a framing nailer in it's case, so many chain binders, garden tools, hammers and ratchets I don't even bother anymore, '100 of heavy chain, new tractor tires on the rim, a bucket from a good sized bucket loader, (needed the winch to recover that)  a couple of Yeti coolers, cases of MRE's and the occasional helmet.  (we're near Ft Hood)

The wife found our latest dog/couch cushion that way too.  Was sitting by the road down from the mailbox.

When I was about 10-11 I found a wallet/billfold type thing FULL of 100's while biking into town to get some ice cream.  I was apparently retarded and dropped it off at the police station with the person at the desk there (very small town).  Thinking back on it, I don't believe they took my contact info or anything, and I'm fairly certain that person just pocketed it.

Driving up the interstate several years ago, I see well over a dozen, maybe 20, new DeWalt boxes in the breakdown lane next to the concrete divider.  I insisted we stop but my grandfather was having none of it, so I kept going.  To this day, I wonder what was in those boxes.  Were they empty or did I just drive past the motherlode of tools?

Recently found a 24' extendable pole.  That must have looked funny with me driving it home with it hanging out the window in my car.

I live near a main road and was going across the street one day and saw a toolbox in the middle of the road. I moved it to the side and went about my business.

Next day its surprisingly still there so I go get it and theres of course no number or identifiers and since the majority were small hand tools there was no sense in trying to take it to the police. Guy must have done something with electrical work, so there were a few well used multimeters and shit like that.

The box was honestly the best part. Still have it.

1985, Bank bag with a little over 12k, and some receipts. It had been there over a month, unfortunately for me the receipts were from a shop owned by a family friend. I drove to their shop and returned it. To this day I never pay for work by them, unless I sneak in while the owner or his son are out.

Multi meter
Refrigerant cylinder half full
Various hand tools.

I found a stack of scratch off lottery tickets rubber banded together. They had not been scratched off yet. I took them home and started scratching them off. I won a little over $1k off 30 tickets.

Also found a ladder, still have it, a 5gal home depot water jug, gave it to a friend.

I spare tire for a Ford Ranger. I had a Bronco 2 at the time, kept it.

Several ratchet straps, a bank bag cut open, full of copier paper, probably stolen and thrown out when they saw it was just paper.

A small zipper bag with a white envelope in it that had "tutoring money" written on it. Envelope contained $245. Also, saw a mini van near Lake Havasu running down the highway the opposite direction with the lid on their rocket box flapping in the breeze emptying out all of their camping gear. Did not stop as I was towing a 5th wheel and there wasn't much of a shoulder.

Germany, 1975, small village outside Wurzburg, rainy cold March afternoon, I was driving and saw a person up ahead walking on the side of the road. I eased over, asked if they needed a ride. Got in, was a young girl, as soon she got settled she flipped back the hood on her jacket and shook out her hair. Stunning beautiful blue eyed blonde, eighteen, had missed her bus. We've been married 47 years.

Right outside the Camp Lejeune Sneads Ferry gate. Found a plate carrier with front, back, side SAPI plates, mag pouches and 6 pmags, IFAK, dump pouch, and camelback. No nametapes or ID on anything.

I snatched it off the road and drove around to all the ranges on Lejeune. Finally found a corporal missing his plate carrier. I gave it back to him and he didn’t even say thank you. I saved him probably $2k

I read this thread earlier while eating breakfast and couldn't think of anything I've ever stopped for.

While on the way to a local clothing/shoe store, I see a baseball bat laying next to the curb.

I said to myself "Stop and get it if it's still there on the way back home."

It was and it's in the passenger floorboard now. :D

Also in the middle of nowhere one time. Found a brand new F150 crashed into a guard rail on a road on the side of a mountain at night. Nobody inside the unlocked truck and engine was still warm. In the bed was a set of Taylor made golf clubs. Tried calling out and looking around in the woods but couldn’t hear or see anything.

Ended up calling the cops and never heard what came of it. My guess is the guy was drunk and ran in the woods to sober up before interacting with the cops.

40 pounds of Marijuana. It was close to the border, and I was a Border Patrol Agent at that time. I called it in and processed it at at the end of my shift. DEA picked it up the next day for destruction.

There were always good finds on the side of the interstate just shy of our checkpoints.

I had just started a walk down the street from my apartment in Kansas City, MO back in the summer of 2020, and noticed a small black fabric zip case in the gutter.  It looked familiar and I thought "no way...."  I picked it up and kept walking and flipped it over to see an embroidered S&W logo on it.   I took a side street and stopped out of the view of passing traffic and unzipped it to find a S&W Bodyguard .380 with a full magazine and another loaded mag in the case.  The case looked familiar as I have the laser version of the same gun.  I considered keeping it but did take it to the police department, as I figured someone sat it on their vehicle and drove off and might be looking for it.  My brother said "Some cop there now has a nice free back up gun thanks to you.  You should have kept it."

16' little giant ladder
24", 2 stage snow blower.  The thing looked brand new.  It wouldn't start and when i found the sparknplug boot wasn't making contact with the plug.  I pushed it on and it fired right up.  I've used it for the past 3 winters.

I found a fire place insert in the ditch by my house, still in box.  I put a found ad in the local paper for a week saying I found something larg in my ditch and if you can discribe it, it was yours.  I didn't hear from anyone that could tell me what it was in 3 weeks so it sits in my garage.

Ammo can full of 9mm 40 and some rifle cartridges, about 500 rounds.

Put up a notice on my local shooting forum to try and find the owner but nobody claimed it so I shot the cartridges I had guns for and gave the ones I didn't away on the forum with the disclaimer that ammo looked like factory ammo in factory boxes but was found on side of road.

I found a kershaw pocket knife on a National Forest Road.   No one for miles.  I still have it somewhere.

I found a stainless steel washing machine basket that I still use as a fire pit in the back yard.

My favorite find is a 15mm Mac Tools socket.  Here’s why:

I pulled over to check on a lady that hit a deer just in front of me.  She was ok, and so I walked over to the deer.  It was not dead but gurgling, so it was soon to be.   The blood coming out of it’s mouth had a chrome quality to it.   I reached down and pulled a 15mm deep socket out of it’s mouth!   I asked the lady if she’d had her car worked on lately she said no, and I kept the socket.  Crazy huh?

This wouldn't have been in Armada would it?

Lost my wallet before summer 2 a day practices for football.  I had brought a bunch of money so I could go school clothes shopping after morning practice.  Brown leather wallet with a horse head on it.  I was devastated.

A few friends and I were riding our bikes when we were 10 or so and found a full can of Schlitz on the side of the road.

No idea how long it had been there, the label was pretty faded.

80 degree Schlitz was not an enjoyable drink, but we powered through!

Then acted even more like idiots for the next hour or so.

Ha, I have been there done that at Drum,....with firearms, fuel cans, camo nets, shit falling off vehicles in the range roads.  Once I even found a private who was formerly a specialist.  The army really didn’t want him back though.  He was supposed to be confined to quarters in cantonment before being kicked out.  I was pretty sure he was trying to find a cache of drugs or stolen property hidden not far into the training areas.    POVs in the range areas stick out like a sore thumb.

Speaking of roadkill I picked up several grouse in the dead of winter on highway 12 along the St. Lawrence river.  They’d wander out of the oak and cottonwoods to pick grit on the shoulder as everything else was snowed in.  They’d apparently take off but get tumbled by speeding tractor trailers.  If they were warm in February they were fresh and edible.  Grouse with apple stuffing is a favorite meal.

other items not of particular note
bungies, tie down straps, life jackets, clean five gallon pails, various hand tools like screw drivers, wrenches, pliers, etc.  Found a crappy come a long but it was not a good one and soon went in the dumpster.  Nicest tool was a large snap on screwdriver, even got the screwdriver part replaced by the snap on man. Same road rash handle though.
