I would think as long as the US government still has nukes, it's kind of hard to complain about that. Pretty cool, IMO.

What’s the controversy? That’s about the most tame
thing to complain about. Liberals trying to change history again? |

As a kid growing up in WA I always liked the Bomber mascot.
They had a great Cross Country team and we would face them in the State Championships most years. The State got rid of our mascot since it was the indians. The community, including the local tribe, all fought to keep it, but the state government knows best. The Bombers don't fall under the state rule so I hope they tell everyone to fuck off. |

I’m from the area. This comes up every couple years. The newspaper and local news here always pushes for the change. Fortunately there is enough local outrage about the change that we continue to hold it back. Lots of bomber pride and the tri cities is pretty conservative!

I was just at the memorial for the USS Juneau, a cruiser that was torpedoed in WW2 with a loss of 690 of the 700 souls aboard. A group of Jap tourists was laughing and taking selfies right in front of the memorial.
I experienced the same damn thing at the Pearl Harbor memorial for the Arizona. I'll start considering loss of life when they do. Until then, I'm considering doing the same thing on a trip to Nagasaki. |

The mural behind her went up my freshman year there, 1993. The "Bomber" name comes from a B-17 named "Day's Pay" in honor of the Hanford workers that donated a day's pay to buy the plane for the war effort. That B-17 flew more than 60 missions over Germany. People were pissed about it then, but didn't have the platform they do now, nor were there that many SJWs to bitch about it then.

Richland HIghschool mascot is the mushroom cloud in recognition of the city's contributions as an "Atomic City" in World War Two. Hanford was home to the Manhattan Project's B Reactor, the first full-scale plutonium production reactor in the world. Plutonium manufactured at the site was used in the nuclear bomb detonated over Nagasaki, Japan. Consequently, mushroom cloud logos are proudly displayed throughout the school and the student body frequently shouts "nuke 'em" at sporting events. https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1021556934464307200/MpqKG2Sf_400x400.jpg Of course, this is becoming controversial these days. Those bombs saved tens, if not hundreds of thousands, of lives that would have been lost had we needed to invade the Home Islands. Most of the lives saved being Japanese. |

Frederick (OK) High School Bombers
The town had a bomber base during WWII. They used a B25 as their logo for many years. Now they use what appears to be a fighter-bomber of modern times. |
