Here is an update for those that do remember. However most probably don’t remember but the gist of it was that I am tired of waiting for terrible turn around times for our merchandise. It’s not really for making apparel for others though we might.
So I looked into it and discovered direct to film printing and it is pretty slick. We bought a really expensive press and then did absolutely nothing for a long time. Well this week I got a bunch of shirts in, the film is ordered, and next week we are jumping in. We have a special event with a band releasing a single and so I figured it was a good test bed for us to do a smaller number of shirts and figure this out. Here’s to solving problems! Attached File |

When I did the original thread there were a lot of folks interested in this as a potential side hustle. For me it is solving a supply issue for our own merch. But now that we are literally receiving the materials to do this next Wednesday or so I thought I would resurrect the conversation. |

We will likely run a few hundred at a time for our regular stuff. |

A good friends family business was screen printing, they had shirts all over the world out of a small warehouse in Ruckersville VA. His parents sold and retired years ago, they did very well.
One of our wealthier clients started a company after the big guys couldn’t deliver swag on time. From what I understand it’s doing well also. |

The best thing you could do at this point OP is sell the machine on CL. Better you get out now before you lose more money on your “business venture”.
Ha! Just kidding. Curious to see how this goes. |

To alleviate stock issues for slow moving designs I tried to introduce the transfer option. Nobody was into it. The consensus was that our clientele would reject transfers for their look and feel. So we stuck exclusively with screen printers. Kinda wish we would have tried it anyway just to see. |

These transfers are softer touch, far more flexible, more precise graphics or can be exactly like standard screen prints with literally the same kind of ink. |

Were you planning to buy a dtf printer or just rely on someone else to supply the transfers? |

Run some practice tees and wash the hell out of them. Tumble dry on low to high. Stretch them. Wear them. Analyze them. Make adjustments to press time, etc. As someone mentioned, check into the humidity of the shirts as you press them (pre-press)?

<---- DTG printer for 18 years.
DTG is expensive to get started. Printing on dark shirts with white ink/colors is slow, expensive and the daily maintenance is a pain. |

There are a variety of options of different films for different applications. You have seen plenty of shirts done with direct to film and just didn’t know as most people wouldn’t know the difference. I have had plenty of samples in my hands pulling them stretching them, and picking at them. I am impressed with the stuff which is why we went forward with it. So away we go…I am super happy with the results! We tested several other types of transfers from this same company and they are all fantastic.
