I admire you brother. How you have lived your life, what you've done for and with your son, has taught him things that he will carry his entire life.  I'll pray tonight.  May God give you strength.

Jeez I'm sorry to hear that. I wish I could offer up some words of advice or comfort but I won't pretend to know or understand your situation. I'll just check back here for updates and see what if anything I can do. In the meantime don't give up hope and accept the outcome as inevitable yet. Cancer is a strange bastard and can always remiss unexpectedly with treatment.

Funny story?

I'm driving down East Range Road at Fort Hood....Summer of 94 I think

My sgt is front of my in a Humvee....I'm in a Duece and 1/2. I'm in the TXARNG now.......

So these old trucks you know top speed mabye 45 mph..........

I have the hammer down and there are three cows up ahead. I see the humvee brake lights as two cows jump across the road.....

They make it the third jumps back into the ditch. I put the hammer back down and start getting the old POS back up to speed........4th gear....

45.........the cow jumps out of the damn ditch right into the front bumper of this big ass Duece and 1/2 truck....bounces off the front bumper.....

Ass swings around and hits the drivers side door and smears cow shit every where.......

I look in the mirror and cow is skipping like a stone over water down the road keep pace with the truck.........like a race.....

finally skids to a stop...........I was busting out loud. I'm like WTF??

I get out and get over to the cow.......it's deader than shit........

somebody did take a picture of it and I would love to find it.

SGT Deltoro I think.....he's a fireman now in Dallas.......

I had my foot on the cow with my hands on my hips in the picture.......

Stupid thing.....didn't even bend the bumper.

Somebody wrote "cow killer" in white chalk on the door later on as well......

I was in the 372nd Fwd Supprt Btln
We supported 5th tank at Fort Hood.

My MOS is 45 Golf. Fire control system repair. I worked on the M1 Abarams tanks......all the electronics in them.

I give you Tecumseh

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion, respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

How is the kid taking things?

It makes my heart hurt to think a out his feeling. I wouldn't lie to him or sugarcoat things too much. At 8 kids are keenly aware of what's going on and get frustrated when adults won't tell them. Answer his questions and ease his mind if you haven't had a chance. Talk to him until he can't stand you anymore, give him as many memories as you can.

Make sure whatever time you have together is full of love.

I think I'll start that letter today.

I'm pretty emotional right now. I would love to have a buddy up here to talk shop to.

Problem is my job, I work with all women. No guys to talk to.120 women lol. Lucky me?

I work at Texaspulmonary and Crtical Care consultants.

www.texaspulmonary.com

I can talk to the Doctors at times but they are really busy.

If anybody can come by I'd love to chat. Cars, guns, trucks....army.......

i need to focus so can write that letter to my son. I think that is a good idea.

Jeff, have they considered proton beam radiation? There is a facility at MD Anderson, but I don't know if it works on lymphoma. It is high dose radiation, shaped to the tumor so it doesn't cook everything around it, such as the intestines. It works well for prostate cancer, which is in the same area, and I had it for a tumor in my head. I was told by my Dr. that the amount I needed would have left me blind and deaf, if not killed me, had they only been able to use normal radiation. It's a long shot, as I think they would have considered it since you were there already, but who knows.

Write letters to your son, you can still help him grow into a man, even if you can't be there every step of the way. Let him know of your history, how you overcame obstacles, and how to become a self-sufficient man. Any lessons you can think of, but I hope that you are able to read over them with him years from now over a beer and laugh. It sounds like you've had a great life so far, take pride in that and hold your head high, no matter what happens. You are in my thoughts, and I too would come visit with you if I could. It seems like it would be a good time sir.

Chris

Radiation is a last ditch effort for me because of where my tumor is. It's wrapped all around my small intestines and pancreas. We'll see what happens. I have a few months to go........

hopefully.

Damn... getting dusty in here.  What the hell am I saying, this thread brought a tear to my eye.  Damn right it did.  Write, write write.  Everything you want to tell your son, everything you want to tell your wife, friends, neighbor.  Get it all out.  Doesn't matter if it makes sense or not, just put it on paper and whomever reads it will understand where you are coming from.

Keep your head up.

Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Brother, keep your chin up. Fight the fight for your son, for your wife. I'll be moving to DFW in a few months. We're GOING to grab a beer because you're going to be there. I don't know what else to say then don't surrender. Good luck brother, you have my prayers.

Jeff, if I could, I would shake your hand and wish you well. Your family will be in my thoughts, and don't bother thinking of the regrets. Be proud of your accomplishments and share everything you can about yourself. As someone who lost my mom earlier than most, I wish more than anything that I had gotten the chance to know more about her past instead of just as a mom. Some day your boy will likely wonder that as well.

Let me add though, a couple years ago we had a woman I work with come so close to death we all just knew we would never see her again. Really. Lower bowel cancer, they ended up putting her into a coma because she was so fucked up. She was dead. Really. Not so much. Tough old broad, ex-DI, 20 year veteran lived!

Unbelievable. I see her every day. Never give up hope. Never. Wish I could come by, South Dakota is a ways off.

Maybe I could take a picture of something for you?

I am not good enough with words to say much of anything, but your in my thoughts.

Only thing I can offer is the story of a good friend of mine, diagnosed with blood cancer (I forget the actual name) he was told he had months to live and simply refused to accept it, he fought hard and told himself that it was not his time. He has been 100% clear for 7 years now. Keep a good thought

Best wishes

Stay strong! I have a friend that was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma a little over a year ago. It had spread throughout his back, spine, and head. In less than a year, with a church standing behind him in prayer, he was in remission (and is still clear today). Don't underestimate the power of prayer, and definitely don't give up hope!
