Propane Tank Neck Beards!!!! Man busted for storing 900 propane tanks in Brooklyn warehouse Mohamed Mohamed, 58, who runs the Gowanus warehouse, was arrested after fire inspectors uncovered the combustible stockpile of 20-pound propane tanks on Friday, the FDNY said on Twitter. “If not for the due diligence of our fire inspectors, there’s a great danger,” FDNY spokesman James Long said Sunday. “It could let loose and explode in a manner that could be deadly.” View Quote Why, you ask? Mohamed, of Bayonne, NJ, admitted that he was ordering the tanks in bulk so he could sell them to someone else, who in turn was peddling the propane to Big Apple restaurants so they could heat their outdoor serving areas during indoor-dining prohibitions due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials said. My local little old school hardware store has been out of 20 and 30 pounders since Thanksgiving.
Their supplier can't give them an ETA on resupply. Kind of regretting giving my son all of my tanks, since he doesn't use them now. |

Between my Grill, Smoker and my Camping trailer, I think we have 9-10 tanks. About half of them are full.
I'm in a really rural area, every Wal-mart, Gas station, liquor store and grocery store swap or fill tanks. Plus there at least two places within 10 mins that that filling these and the bigger tanks for houses is their core business. Then there are a few places with 20 miles of us that supply those places... Anything could happen, but we're good for now.. |

The feed and seed place I work at sells the smaller tanks, up to 100 pounds. Been having a had time getting any in, Monday IIRC we had 3 or 4 20 lbers, and a couple of 40s and that's it. Haven't had any problem getting propane to put in them and we're selling the hell out of it, been needing to get our 1000 gal tank refilled twice a week.

Quoted: so did anyone figure out why they are in short supply in some places? View Quote The tank exchanges that most places have are simply not getting the empties returned. People and businesses are hoarding them and the tank manufactuers have been shutting down for various reasons and can't keep up with demand. I talked with a driver the other day and he said he delivers 300ish per day but only returns with 200ish empties. He said it used to be close to even. It doesn't take long for that deficit to throw everything out of whack. I've been getting mine refilled, there's no shortage of propane, just the tanks. |

A couple of things are causing it.
First, patio heating. I sold out of a year supply of patio heaters in October, they typically last through February. Second, grill sales were up 200% last year, 3/4 of those buyers need a new tank. Third, heater sales are through the roof this year with electrical selling out first. Propane sold next because it was that was left. #1 tanks have been short a long time. |
|
[#32]
Patio furniture is next. High demand and a backlog at the ports as well as container availability.
We can only fit so many patio sets on a container. When they become scarce we put higher margin items in the container. |
