I figure with all of the socioeconomic issues affecting policies and procedures of the majority of agencies nationwide we could give agencies who still allow their men and women to do police work some notoriety.

It can also be a good reference for those who come to the forum looking for potential employers.

I currently do not work for a particularly proactive agency nor an agency where administration would have our back in a tough situation.

If you know of one, please let the community know.

I'd imagine a lot of members here work or recently worked for an agency and can provide insight of agencies other members may be interested in working for. I, for one, am looking to move and interested to see if any agencies pop up where I'm  looking.

Can’t help, know of some WA and OR agencies that are still good to work for, but the legislators have knee capped them so much that I would stick to a less idiotic state.

There is still the “can make a lot of money” aspect, but that only goes so far.
2021 can’t come soon enough!

Edit- well maybe 2020 wasn’t so bad after all.....

Arkansas State police is the only state or lower agency in Arkansas that's able to actively turn away candidates that other agencies would kill for.   Much of the last precert class were SGTs or above leaving their agencies to become entry level troopers.

I don't know exact current numbers,  but they're pushing 6 figures with OT.

The brass has their back and encourages them to go hunting.

Had a former co-worker move to Cape Coral PD, FL. So far he loves it there and they are super engaged in proactive policing techniques.

Just about any Sheriff's Office in Florida that's at/above the Polk, Citrus, Pasco, Hernando, Sumter, Lake, and Volusia county line. From Jacksonville west to Pensacola, all are still in the LE business for the most part. All the agencies around me are still getting after criminals. Can't speak for the city PD"s.

Pay varies greatly. Sizes vary.

Contact FDLE and ask them to send you a list of all the Sheriff's Offices and Municipal PD's.

ETA- Florida Highway Patrol will run your ass to the moon and back, they currently give zero fucks about being politically correct when it come to chasing your ass.

Maine State Police is a good organization. My cousin will be retiring in 2 more years. Went from 20 years as a road dog to commercial vehicle for the stable 9-5 just before retirement.

The good: very professional, low drama, good benefits, the garbage cities have their own PDs so you don't deal with a lot of that.

The less good: DAs aren't dealing with speeding tickets < 30 over so troopers simply stopped writing them. (That might be viewed as good), backup can be 45 minutes away sometimes, it can get damned cold, Maine is Democrat run but, the caveat to that is that it's really because of a couple of southern counties so the overall culture is not bad. The pay isn't amazing but, you can do alright. Average start is $61,721.

My old agency made national news and was named in a congressional proceeding for its defiance of ICE. Can't recommend them

The only out of state agency I've ever had a negative encounter with. Maybe it was just that guy that day

I retired from DEA 15 years ago.  It was a great job back then.  I don't think I had five bad days the entire time I worked there.  But from what I hear, it's changed a lot.  Stuff we did just because we felt like it, now takes an op plan and ASAC approval.

Army Reserve buddy of mine is with local DEA. We had the benefit of working TFs together on the LE side recently, but he picked up ADOS orders for Germany.

Anyway, the amount of hoops he has to jump through on stuff is just asinine. It reminds me of the military... might as well do a full MDMP on a single target house.

Anyway, I'm sure that's just healthy bitching on his behalf, right?

As for local agencies, if you find yourself in the IA/NE/KS/MO area I can lend a hand on info.
