I am not seeing the issue. After the post below mine I looked at the other section and it does look better but not a biggie. Ask the guy about making the change at your cost.
PS, if you do not maintain that wood with a suitable preservative stain it will gray and look like crap worse than any issue you have with it now. |

At the top of your picture it appears his side of the fence is identical.
Get a staked survey, if the fence is 1/2" on your side of the property line have him tear it down or tear it down yourself.

You were nice to the fence builder, not your neighbor. If it really bothers you, build your own fence. It doesnt really look any different on his side. I have seen a lot of fences that weren't finished.

Always blown away by the type of busybody shit you burbdwellers concern yourselves with.
He probably did you a favor. That style of fence looks much better from both sides than a lot of fences that I have seen.
Considering that he left his side of the fence the same I don't see that he is rude. You're making too much of it. Go ahead and stain your side and be done with it.
I think the contrast in colors looks pretty nice. As a previous poster stated, pressure clean and stain to maintain.
It’s his fence on his property not much you can do about it unless you put your own fence up to block his fence
The other side looks slightly nicer in comparison. But only in comparison and not enough that it matters and honestly you have no say in it anyway.
If you didn't pay for the fence you get whatever side the he wants to face your way.
I wouldn't complain since I didn't pay for it. |

If it's his fence on his property. I say ignore it. When you split halves etc it becomes a headache when the shit breaks and who's paying to fix it? Not always civil.
As far as your side, if you don't want to see his fence build a fence a foot or so higher than his with the ugly side facing him. |
Quoted: Did you pay for your side of the fence he built to be nice? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes As I said in my post, I offered, he declined. Oh. Well, OP didn’t stroke a check, so he should be happy its close to vertical. I offered to. Isn't a hurricane going to destroy it in a year or two anyways? Defends on how the fence is built. No fence I have ever built has come down. This one is unlikely to, they put quickrete in the holes, but they used a nail gun for the pickets. I use screws on mine. |
I am surrounded by 5 strand barbwire fences, yours looks pretty good for city life.
I will gladly stick with my barbwire and country life. Your fence wouldnt bother me in the slightest. |
Which side of the fence in the photo faces your yard?
The fence appears to have pickets on both sides, and the (ugly) posts are on the neighbor's side Add a rail if you don't like the exposed ends of the pickets. Your complaint has strong strains of the irrational wailing of neighborhood Karens. |
If I am not mistaken, code is pretty side out. I know in HOA's that is usually the rule also. With that being said, do you really give a shot?
That looks better than most of the neighbor side of the fences that I see.

It's a good thing the OP does not have snow.
"It's not your fence, it's the fence Gary". Gary the angry neighbour |
Your life must be really easy if that is your biggest problem.
Put up your own, 8ft, paint bright orange on his side. Problem handled.
If you wanted to pay for half, paying to finish your side shouldn't be a problem
He didn't want you to pay for half so he could avoid these discussions |
I have never even heard of people spending money for the neighbors side.
In many jurisdictions, there are rules stating that when you build a fence with 2 different looking faces, the better looking side has to face your neighbor. Might be something to look into.
Why would the neighbor build a fence and give you the nicer side to look at?
If the fence is on your property modify it however you like. If the fence is on his property deal with it or build a new fence next to his on your property.
The only thing that looks bad is the two different types of wood.

View Quote I'm not willing to go that far, it's not THAT big of a deal. They did pull up some of my pavers and not put them back down. When I complained, the builder got snotty. I pointed out that some of the pickets are over where my pavers go, which means the fence is likely now on my property, I'd be happy to call code enforcement, have the survey pulled, and make them tear down the entire fence. Pavers were put back down. |
