Beryllium copper--the wonder metal banned by the EPA. BeCu Pings have always held a place in my heart. The Anser 2 was also my first putter. Several clubs have come and gone through my bag. I was bitten by the bug again when I saw a dinged up 36" Anser 2 on eBay for $99. This is my work in progress. The face had been struck against something repeatedly. Attached File I also suspected that the face casting wasn't flat. I was right (ignore the surface treatment) Attached File Attached File Filed flat and then cleaned up. Most of the dings in the center of face nearly removed. Attached File Now to restore a "cast" texture by etching the surface with salt and vinegar. Attached File Eighteen hours later. I use a pipette to keep it wet with vinegar every few hours. Attached File |

Here's where we're at. Attached File It's now sitting in a Coke bath for 24 hours. Salt and vinegar corrode and the Coke removes. |

Tagged. Great job. What did you use to ensure the face is indeed flat? I'm not sure I would trust my hand and eye only. |

Yes. Yes it does.

I used the edge of the file and my eye. That's all the precision my pathetic game requires. I used a fine file and was going slow as I watched the Masters. Probably shouldn't inhale the filings given the health concerns of BeCu. I was happy to just be able to get down to those low areas while preserving the markings. The putter has a slightly curved face or at least the heel and toe were a few thousandths below the center. I maintained that. |

Not sure what kind of fumes beryllium creates. But what's done is done, and the dose was tiny if any. |
