Quoted: Familiar with cylinder head coatings, but that looks more like a plating. So...what is it on those heads? My contribution... https://i.imgur.com/JGTT1aP.jpg View Quote It was originally for engine masters a couple years back, but an unrelated failure on the dyno while tuning delayed it and then covid killed EM for a couple years. |

Quoted: Oh it's not plating. Look closer. I can almost guarantee you haven't seen this before. Quoted: Dyno racing is still professional cheating. View Quote Then it's obviously some type of bronze alloy with the specific goal of trying to suck heat out of the chamber on a class specified iron head. Couldn't use aluminum because the missing weight would be noticeable. It almost seems like the chamber design is leaving a lot of room on the table for valve size, but it's almost like it's prioritizing air velocity by decreasing any type of turbulence coming into the chamber. |

No love for the super charger lid? I was pretty happy with the finish on that.
But that's me being a machining nerd. We put a giant heat exchanger in that but it's tough to beat the GM bricks. That car held the ZR1 LS9 half mile record for a while. |

View Quote Oh, the surface finish is appreciated, but I've been staring at the 1.9l blower most of my time and it didn't hit me that was the 2.3l lid bolt pattern. Had I seen the underside, I would have known exactly what it was. |

Quoted: Yep, my daily driver. Bought 2016 at 52k, modded all in one swoop at 93k to 732/746 on the chassis dyno, and currently has about 150k on the clock. Up untill the 'rona, beat on it just about every weekend with a dedicated few around town. I've been very impressed with it so far on how it's held up with minimal issues on the entire car. https://i.imgur.com/4Rmp3HN.jpg When it comes to the general consensus on making power, a lot of the go-to idea always assume you are working without constraints. It's when you are trying to squeeze that last little 10hp from every single little 1hp good idea that the actual innovations in making big power come from as people get desperate for that last little leg up gainst the next guy. That's where the "a-ha" moments are made and people start looking at making things efficient vs scaling physics. View Quote The lid was half car guy jewlery and half trying to get every degree of heat out of the charge air. It did better than it should have considering the abuse it saw. The owner liked to drive the Eaton off the right side of the compressor map and the blower wasn't the only thing in the intake tract making heat. The heads are all efficiency. Rules constrained design, big time. They might have bent the rules a little. At this point I'm not sure they'll ever run in competition. Looking like they will get tuned up and put in a street hot rod. Kinda sad they were pretty. Maybe someday someone will pull a head off an old SBC that runs particularly well and say WTF I like doing engine dork stuff on occasion. I learn something every time. |
