Polestar (PSNY) is gearing up to launch its new electric sports car, the Polestar 6, in 2026. The Swedish electric vehicle maker calls it “the future of the sports car,” as Polestar wants it to go head-to-head against the Porsche 911 in dynamic driving. Backed by auto industry veterans Volvo and Geely, Polestar has made an exciting entrance into the electric vehicle market. With a focus on sustainability, not only from the vehicle’s emissions but throughout its entire life cycle, Polestar is building some of the most eco-friendly cars on the road. The Polestar 2, the automaker’s first fully electric model, was introduced in 2019 and has continuously built momentum with progressive upgrades each year. Polestar expanded its portfolio this fall, releasing the Polestar 3, the brand’s first electric SUV with a 300-mile range, in October. As the company’s CEO, Thomas Ingelath, said during the company’s third-quarter earnings: We [Polestar] are a real [electric] car company, we are in production, we are putting cars on the road today, and we are delivering. The Polestar 4, the company’s second SUV, is slated to launch in 2023, while its original concept, the Precept, will follow up as the Polestar 5 in 2024. Meanwhile, the automaker’s 2+2 electric roadster that debuted as the O2 concept is set to come to life as the Polestar 6, or what they call “a new era for sports cars.” Although Polestar 6 production is planned for 2026, the company is “benchmarking this [electric sports car] against a Porsche.” Polestar’s electric sports car set to take on Porsche 911, Taycan According to new details Edward Trinh, Polestar Australia’s Product Planning Manager revealed to Drive at a Melbourne event showcasing the automaker’s electric sports car, the Polestar 6 will Rival Porsche models. Trinh said at the event: We’re benchmarking this dynamically against a Porsche. [The] 911, the Taycan – they’re the types of cars we’re looking at. We believe they’re the benchmarks in the industry for vehicle dynamics. The Polestar 6 will feature a dual motor (884 hp and 663 lb-ft) AWD electric architecture (800V) with a target 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Trinh adds Polestar’s R&D team is “incredibly serious” about including superior driving dynamics, stating: Speaking to the R&D team, we got a bit of insider information from the head of vehicle dynamics for this vehicle [that] they’re looking [into] trick suspension systems. With Polestar’s performance history, Trinh says, “It needs to handle. Vehicle dynamics is our background, we don’t forget about that heritage.” The two-door electric sports car will feature an aluminum unibody for maximum strength and ideal weight, often found “on a Mclaren or a Lotus,” according to Trinh. Perhaps, more importantly, all types of aluminum will be labeled “so it’s easy to recycle.” The automaker’s sustainability mission will be on display in the Polestar 6, as Trinh adds: It’s not just about carbon neutrality, it’s about circularity, so we’re making cars that are easier to service, easier to repair, easier to recycle. Electrek’s Take Can Polestar’s electric roadster dethrone the Porsche 911? Don’t count out Polestar yet, as the company was initially a racing team. Porsche’s 911 can achieve 0 to 62 mph in under 3 seconds, but Polestar still has a few years to perfect their first electric sports car. EVs offer the opportunity for higher performance with instant torque and acceleration. Meanwhile, Porsche has also been in the lab creating its own electric sports. What looks like a Porsche 718 Boxster was spotted testing in Germany. |

Yeah - when I’m looking for a sports car, making sure that it can easily be recycled is my top priority.

I read the thread title as Pornstar and clicked only to be disappointed.

The 911 is bulletproof and has been around forever. I seriously doubt Polestar will dethrone it no matter what electric motor they put in it. Porsche ups their game every year on the 911's.
|
|
Of all the companies to dethrone the 911, Volvo is at the top of the list
|
|
Good luck with that.
Generations of 911 fans would rather eat their feet than drive anything else. Good looking ride. Might appeal to democrats. |

Did they model that after a Pontiac Solstice/ 350z love child.
|
|
Looks sort of like a Nissan Z convertible.
I support having more electric sports cars since the competition should force them all to improve. Not trading my 911 in for one anytime soon, but I want Porsche to have to make their EVs better, faster, with excellent range. |
|
LOL
Fuck no. I will take something that handles a little worse or accelerates a little worse if it means that I get my jimmies rustled just looking at it sitting there. Add in the sounds of a performance engine thrashing through the gears and it is easy to see why Porsche is a deserved king on the throne. If you are gonna swing for the king you better not miss. That ugly fucking pile of shit screams "fucktard onboard" just as loudly as it lets everybody know they missed with their swing. |

one of my neighbors got the 4 door polestar, looks decent. at first i thought it was a Volvo

The Swede parents of that design team all had children that are clearly retarded. |

Why is it that EV cars have to look like something out of a sci-fi movie? Can’t you find designers that actually like automobiles?

View Quote The Porche Taycan and the sister Audi Etrons are probably the best looking electrics to date. Everything else is mostly shit. Think there was some study awhile back that showed a lot of electric car buyers are smug virtue signal types that are less interested in an electric if it looks just like a gas going version. They want that recognition that comes with "oh it must be electric." So here we are with oh so many vehicles that are electric being obvious. "What's wrong with your "Oh nothing, it's just |

It will out-perform ANYTHING on the road - but only for 20-30min/day

Pretty neat videos of the cayman gt4 ev at good wood festival.
Doesn't make flat 6 noises but makes a shit ton of scifi screams... it's neat, it's stupid fast. I'm gonna cry when the 911 goes ev. In my eyes 911s are still air cooled and a 996 is a new car.... |

gas cars are a dead-end. Give it another decade or two and EV will come on top, for sure. Li batteries will be upgraded, replaced improved.
You have instant torque. simper to operate, no spark plugs, exhaust, etc. The fastest cars in the world are already electric IIRC, fastest bikes are surely electric. and not as loud BTW, E-bikes have no gears to mess with making them fast simpler to drive. |

I know Polestar was originally a racing team. But their name was purchased by Volvo to use as the name for their electric car brand.
So, no, they’re not going to suddenly out sportscar a company with the racing pedigree of Porsche. They are really nice cars though. |

yeah?... well they're going to have to win Le Mans about 30 times before anyone gives a shit

Porsche 992 based electric All-Wheel drive wunderkind. That would be based.

Polestar is a Swedish automotive brand established in 1996 by Volvo Cars' partner Flash/Polestar Racing and acquired in 2015 by Volvo, which itself was acquired by Geely in 2010.[3] It is headquartered in Torslanda outside Gothenburg, Sweden[4] with vehicle production taking place in China. Volvo has been offering Polestar upgrades since 2009. Our 2018 Volvo Xc60 R-Design T6 with Polestar is pretty impressive. The Polestar tune/software package added another 15HP. |

Electric sports cars are a small small niche product that has no market if any.
It’s silly to see so much “competition”. |
|
I like it as a concept but man 2026 release? That's some Elon Cybertruck type timeline there.
