Eft.  Too much for a credit card. ?? Potential penalties and hassle etc. you just enter the bank and routing numbers that someone can already get easier by stealing a check or snapping a picture.  The IRS site is very secure.  I can see the taxes were paid.  State I had to send a check certified mail.  No other option.

I mail a check. I want a copy of cashed check if they say I didn’t pay them.

Dealing with that right now. They say I didn’t pay even though I sent proof of cashed check. Fun times.

Small world.  I just got a letter that they didn't receive my 2020 return, but oddly enough, they cashed the check that was with it a year ago.

The wife and I pay via a combination of W2 withholding from our respective corporate job and also write  paper checks submitted via quarterly 1040ES payments.    Having dealt with the IRS and claimed missing payments in the past, for anything outside of W2 withholdings I want copies of cashed physical checks in case there is a dispute.

We try and pay in enough throughout the year to cover the tax obligation for the year so that we don't have penalties/interest pile up if we underpay, as we almost always have to file an extension given that we never receive all of our K1s prior to tax filing day.

For 2021 we have paid in just shy of $200K between withholding and 1040ES payments,  and I am hoping that we don't owe more than another $5K on top of that.  I would be ecstatic if we didn't owe anything more and/or even got a couple grand back.

I have a check book that I use solely for tax related things.

It's actually been nice having a record going back many years of all my various tax payments in one neat little package.

I'll sometimes even make payments a few days late but mark the date on the check as the due date because fuck the IRS and oregon dept of treasury.

Snail mail and a check to the IRS. Mailed it a couple of months ago, they have already cashed it and accepted it.
